I've personally seen holes while driving across the George Washington Bridge, using the lower deck, from NYC to NJ and can see the Hudson River underneath. Every car that crosses the bridge has to pay a toll and the bridge is still in such a bad shape. Where did all the toll money go?

tell me about it. roads in the sf bay area are some of the worst in the nation. there are cracks, unevenness and potholes everywhere. in fact, the 2nd and 3rd worst are in sf and sj respectively. roads in socal are the worst. these are wealthy cities with extremely high tax returns, yet only pennies are spent per resident when it comes to road improvements.

Thanks for being honest and upfront with the decaying infrastructure in the SF Bay Area.

I used to be a 'Quitter' when I lived in the NYC Metropolitan area for 12 years and the infrastructure there sucks. Every winter, the freezing and thawing cycle caused the potholes to pop up in so many areas that cost the motorists dearly in suspension repairs and/or tire/rim replacements. Not to mention the road salt which can rust the car body. The state income tax and sales tax in the NYC area are one of the highest in the country and what we got in return was shitty infrastructure and lousy gov't services. The motorists also had to pay high road tolls for shitty roads, bridges, and tunnels. It cost US$14 just to cross the George Washington Bridge one-way. US$7.50 to use the Queens-Midtown Tunnel to drive to Manhattan from Queens.

Now I am back in SG and consider myself a 'Returnee.'
