My Indian friend tells me that Indian drivers are the most intrepid in the world: if you have driven on Indian roads, you can drive anywhere.
You jostle with cows, buffalo, bullock carts, reckless lorries, tuk tuks, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians who treat the roads like a footpath, even the occasional elephant! Nobody pays heed to traffic lights or pedestrian crossings. He almost knocked down a cow once; had to swerve onto a pavement to avoid a collision. That's why you see Indians driving on icy roads in Iceland, through a blizzard in Hokkaido in mid-winter, on the autobahn in Germany, navigating crowded small streets in Kaoshiung, on dirt roads in Toba, and very often driving on the wrong side of the road in countries with left-hand drive.
And the best thing is, you can buy a driving licence online for only USD50.
Amazing India.
