The upcoming Huawei Mate 30 Pro reportedly to feature revolutionary camera sensor

EAzgOJ0XoAYAeAz.jpg

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is Huawei’s next major flagship, and by all accounts the device will be rather revolutionary, breaking new ground with both its edge to edge waterfall screen and cameras.

Now we have some more details regarding the camera which suggests the device may have 2 40 megapixel camera sensors with an additional 8-megapixel periscope zoom camera.

According to @Rodent950 the device will be equipped with:
  • 40MP 1/1.5″ sensor with f/1.6 – f/1.4 aperture, RYYB pixel layout and Cine lens feature when taking video.
  • 40MP 1/1.7″ 120° ultrawide lens with cine lens features.
  • 8MP tele 5X zoom
The news appears to be corroborated by reliable leaker Ice Universe who posted pictures of the sensors:

The larger sensors are notable because simply increasing resolution without increasing sensor size tends to lead to poor light sensitivity and therefore poorer pictures. The images suggest Huawei is taking the old Nokia Lumia 1020 approach of having a large high-resolution sensor for best picture quality.

The Huawei Mate 30 is clearly intended to be a specs monster, and when it arrives it is expected to be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 985 chipset with an integrated 5G modem, 55W fast-charging support and 10W wireless reverse charging.

The device is expected to hit the market sometime this fall. Will the news convince any of our readers to jump ship from Samsung?

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro promises to push the envelope of smartphone photography
Huawei will launch the Mate 30 phones in the coming months and a new leak touts the Mate 30 Pro to continue the trend of pushing the envelope with progressively impressive camera hardware. Apparently, the Mate 30 Pro will feature two massive 40 MP sensors alongside a 5X optical zoom telephoto lens.

Huawei appears to be the company single-handedly pushing the development of smartphone camera performance, at least in the hardware segment. Starting with last year's P20 Pro, Huawei's flagships have progressively featured class-leading camera hardware and that trend looks set to continue with the Mate 30 Pro.

According to a new report, the Mate 30 will feature two 40 MP sensors. The main shooter will be the same game-changing 40 MP RYYB sensor that debuted on the P30 Pro. The ultra-wide-angle camera is the more interesting one, as it's said to also be a 40 MP 1/1.7" sensor.

Ultra-wide-angle shooters are generally much worse than the main cameras but, if this rumor turns out to be accurate, the Mate 30 Pro could have an ultra-wide-angle shooter that outperforms the main sensor on most other flagships.

Both shooters are expected to have a new Cine Lens feature for video recording. Huawei phones have received flak for sub-par video recording and we could finally see improvement in that department.

The telephoto lens is expected to be an 8 MP sensor capable of taking 5X optical zoom shoots, just like the P30 Pro.

Shenzhen already got 5G.

Same SIM card same phone number. Just trial with 5G phone slot in your same SIM Card and viola! MEGA SPEED faster than home's OpenNet fiber optics.

Absolutely AMAZING. Download hours of movies within seconds. But ate all your data quota. Must purchase extra data 流量包!

Huawei Casually Drops Mate 30 Launch Date (And Google May Be Missing)
huawei-mate-30-pro-render-header.jpg

Image: SlashLeaks
Last week Huawei showed off the new HarmonyOS at its Developer Conference in China. And now it has confirmed the launch date of the Mate 30, and it's earlier than usual.
c0qsoxqhl24psftnodr9.jpg

Russian news site High-tech.mail.ru has reported that the news was casually mentioned during an EMUI 10 media session by Huawei's Consumer Business Software President Dr. Wang Chenglu.
He told the publication that the Mate 30 and Mate 30 pro would launch somewhere in Europe on September 19, which will be September 20 in Australia.
He also mentioned that the phones would contain the manufacturer's new Kirin 990 chipset.
Huawei's new chips are generally announced at IFA in Berlin, which will be kicking off on September 4. We're likely to find out more about it then and will be reporting live from the ground with all the details.
September is also early for a Mate release, with the series tending to launch in October.
Thanks to recent leaks, we're expecting to see a a hot round camera array on the rear of the devices. It's a nice changed from the square and rectangle changes in market at the moment, and looks pretty hot.
It's also said to have similar lenses to the P30 Pro from earlier this year.
There have also been rumours of a 6.7-inch QHD+ screen WITH A 90hZ refresh rate and a 4,200mAH battery with 55W SuperCharge functionality.
There has been talk that the Mate 30 series will launch without Google Services pre-installed thanks to the recent issues with the U.S. government. It's going to be damn interesting to see how that plays out between now and then.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro’s design revealed in official poster
By Habeeb Onawole - Aug 26, 2019

The Huawei Mate 30 will be rocking a very unique look when it launches later this year. After months of leaks, we now have a clear look of the phone thanks to a leaked official poster.

The poster which was shared on Weibo shows the Mate 30 Pro will have a wide notch similar to that of the Mate 20 Pro. We can make out about three cameras inside the notch. We bet the phone has a 3D face unlock system for security.

The Mate 30 Pro has an IR blaster and a microphone at opposite ends of the top. There are also antenna lines too. The display is shown to curve to the sides and the bezels are quite thin. The phone does look really gorgeous but we are more excited about the back.

The Mate 30 Pro will come with four rear cameras that are placed in a circular housing. The phone has a significant camera bump which we believe has an important function explained below.

Earlier today, Android Authority reported that Huawei and Honor may be working on Moto Mod-style cases for its phones. These cases were discovered on the Bluetooth SIG website which has a listing of several cases. The model number of these cases hint at their functions. For example, there is a game case, a snorkeling case, a health case, and an amplification case. These cases will connect via Bluetooth 4.2 and provide additional features. The listing is even more detailed and reveals the health case will have features like blood pressure monitoring, glucose-level monitoring, temperature measurement, and heart rate measurement.

The model number also reveals these smart cases will be available for different phones as the codenames are included in the model numbers. The codenames for some of these yet-to-be-announced phones are Anna, Elsa, Noah, Ark, Sulawesi, Maxwell, Emma, Keira, Yarlung, Zangbo, Volga, Danube, Titian, Palawan, Pascal, CHA, PEN, Piaget, Kelly, Audrey, Catherine, Eagle, Ruby, Bugatti, Baikal, etc.

Based on the design of the Mate 30 Pro, we believe it will be the first device to come with these smart cases and the cases should flush with the camera bump when attached.

The Mate 30 Pro also has what appears to be a Xenon flash and a smaller circular LED flash. We can also see LEICA written on the back but can’t make out the other text.

The phone will have a red-painted power button and will be available in purple and green. The poster also reveals the phone will be powered by the Kirin 990 processor and have superfast charging. The phone is rumored to launch on September 19.

Huawei's mid-range Nova 5T to launch in Singapore

Huawei’s mid-range Nova 5T to be available in Singapore with four AI cameras
by Damian Teoh
27 Aug 2019
Pitched as a superior tool for social media content creation, the device is the first from the Nova 5 line-up to be available outside of China.

Despite the gathering storm of US sanctions on the Shenzhen-based tech giant, Huawei is showing no signs of stopping, even announcing its own Harmony OS – which works across all smart devices – earlier this month.

And now, after launching the mid-range Nova 5 series of phones comprising the Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro, Nova 5i and Nova 5i Pro a few months ago in its home market, it has debuted the fifth member of the family, the Nova 5T.

The Nova 5T will be the first from the mid-range series to be available in Singapore – or anywhere outside of China, for that matter. While Huawei could not at this moment confirm its local release date nor pricing, it should come in at around the S$500 to S$550 mark, if industry rumours are any indication.

This would put the device right in line with the range-topping Nova 5 phone, the 5 Pro, which retails in China for roughly S$600.

At the Nova 5T’s unveiling CNA Lifestyle attended in Shenzhen earlier this month, Huawei executives brushed aside talk of the Nova 5T being a rebranded Honor 20, the latter being a device available in some international markets, though not in Singapore.

Both devices have strikingly similar specs, down to the quadruple rear cameras and near bezel-free, edge-to-edge 6.26-inch display with a hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera. The main differences being how the Honor 20 uses the brand’s Magic UI versus Huawei’s EMUI, and that the Honor comes with 6GB of RAM versus the Nova 5T’s 8GB.

Similarities aside, the Nova 5T does cut quite the imposing figure, though it does eschew the Nova 5 Pro’s OLED display and under-screen fingerprint sensor. Instead, the Nova 5T gets an IPS display and side-mounted fingerprint sensor designed as a small notch in the aluminium frame.

Its four rear-facing cameras include a 48-megapixel main lens, 16-megapixel wide angle, 2-megapixel macro and 2-megapixel bokeh lens.

Perhaps the Nova 5T’s trump card is its use of Huawei’s flagship octa-core Kirin 980 chipset, the same one used in its top-shelf P30 and Mate 20 devices. The chip touts AI-enhanced capabilities, including graphics processing, image processing (improved low-light photography) and reduced device slowdown over time.

According to Huawei, its AI HDR+ algorithm allow for portrait shots even in the dark.

If pricing in Singapore comes in as expected under S$550, the Nova 5T – based on its specifications alone – looks to be a value winner in the mid-range mobile segment. It certainly is the best-looking of the bunch, with its chromatic, 3D-effect rear (available in blue, black and purple).

The Samsung Galaxy A80 does edge the Huawei out in terms of screen size and its funky rotating cameras, but it is also more expensive. The real competition for the Nova 5T could come in the form of the Xiaomi Mi 9T, which comes in slightly cheaper than our estimated price for the Huawei. It isn’t as pretty as the Nova 5T but, crucially, Xiaomi isn’t (yet) on the US sanctions list.

CNA Lifestyle was in Shenzhen at the invitation of Huawei.
