I'm always weary of organizations without any real purpose such as religious sects, clan associations, special interest NGOs etc. It's hard to pinpoint what their actual tangible contributions to the society are beyond some ambiguous noble goals. Even if they started off being sincere in trying to make a change, the reality is after a while most of them can taken over by parasites that latch on to the platform.
Too often than not, they become hotbeds of cronyism and forums whereby vested interests get together to do under the table horse trading. What usually happens is the leadership and the elite members of the group make use of a bunch of honest serving lower level grunts on the ground who are sincere in doing good for the society as a cover up for their activities.
That's why when a scandal breaks out in these organizations, the volunteers and ordinary members often feel shocked and betrayed that bad stuff was happening on the top when the people on the ground were making selfless sacrifices and contributions for the cause.
