GE2015: PAP Aljunied GRC candidates tuck into orh luak on walkabout
SINGAPORE - From Fengshan to Punggol-East and now Aljunied, one thing is clear - orh luak (oyster omelette) has emerged as the dish of the 2015 General Election.
It was again the go-to choice of breakfast when the People's Action Party's (PAP) Aljunied team of candidates were on a walkabout on Wednesday (Sept 2) morning.
In a Facebook post on the PAP Aljunied GRC page, team leader Yeo Guat Kwang and his team mates Shamsul Kamar, K. Muralidharan Pillai and Chua Eng Leong were pictured at Serangoon Gardens tucking into ork luak and some curry puffs.
The post read: "While Victor Lye is busy with the media, the four of us decided to enjoy the famous Serangoon Gardens orh luak and freshly-made epok epok. Recommendation from residents we met this morning." Mr Lye is the fifth member of the team.

The team are hoping to wrest the five-seat ward back from incumbents Workers' Party (WP).
The now famous plate of orh luak first caused fevered speculation when WP chairman Sylvia Lim posted on Instagram a picture of herself enjoying the dish in Fengshan SMC.
The PAP's candidate for Fengshan, Ms Cheryl Chan, later commented that the Fengshan food centre is more famous for bak chor mee (minced meat noodles) and not orh luak.
The PAP's Charles Chong, who is also in a battle against the WP in Punggol-East SMC, also made reference to the dish when he took a dig at the WP later.
"After Polling Day, we also want to be able to eat orh luak or orh neng (oyster egg omelette) - whatever you call it - with residents at Aljunied, Hougang and Punggol East. And the dish will taste better if we are their elected representatives," he had said, referring to the three WP-held constituencies that PAP is fighting to win back in the Sept 11 polls.
Win or lose, the biggest victor of the election might just be orh luak hawkers.
