The Eunos community volunteers and I were out on the night of 8 February 2013 wishing the shopkeepers and residents of Eunos prosperity, luck and wealth on the joyous occasion of Chinese New Year in the year of the snake. We met Singaporeans from all walks of life, and after a challenging week in parliament debating the white paper on population, a part of me wished this Singapore that I know and am so fond of never changes - our common heritage, our shared experiences, the warmth, the respect and the smiles, regardless of race, language, religion and even political persuasion. This is our country and the bonds we share as a people make us who we are - and one of our strongest bonds is multiracialism and a respect for one another's beliefs, cultures and traditions.
