16.12.2012 - Christmas Carnival @ Eunos 2012

<abbr title="Monday, December 17, 2012 at 5:35am" data-utime="1355693731" class="timestamp"></abbr>
Tis’ the season to be jolly! Residents of Eunos enjoyed a touch of Christmas Magic this morning, as we celebrated Christmas with the “Christmas Magic” Carnival at Blk 122 Bedok Reservoir Road.

Young and old alike came down in the morning and afternoon to enjoy the many activities at the mini carnival. One could try one’s hand at the games stalls and the games hosted by our emcee – (including the ever-popular musical chairs), or get decorated with Christmas symbols at the face and hand painting station. Everyone also enjoyed the delightful and delicious snacks and sweets, such as the candy floss, popcorn, malt candy and potong ice cream.

We were also entertained by the various stage performances. Our Eunos volunteers and a youth cell group sang the familiar Christmas favourites. They were joined by Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, Mr Pritam Singh, for a lively rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. We were also thrilled by an exciting Diabolo (Chinese Yo-yo) performance.

Perhaps the highlight of the day was the debut magic performance put up by NCMP Yee Jenn Jong and his daughter Faith, who wowed the crowd with their amazing illusions. Whoever knew that Jenn Jong had the ability to make handkerchiefs disappear?

Finally, Santa Claus too came by our carnival to give out Christmas cookies and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

MGRry Xmas

The residents of Blk 109 Hougang Ave 1 organised an open-to-all showing of Adimai Penn, the 1969 film starring two Chief Ministers of Tamil Naidu past and present, including the great MG Ramachandran, or MGR, the anniversary of whose death falls on December 24. In between visits to other community events for the night, I was on hand to catch parts of the movie, receive expert running commentary, savor home-cooked curry puffs and otherwise learn from our residents about the philanthropy and social developments that lie at the heart of the best that MGR stands for. At the showing, an ardent MGR fan shared with me that his wife and daughters were attending Christmas Eve Mass but had given him leave to commemorate the night after a different fashion.

Earlier, I sang carols at the Christmas celebrations organised by the residents of Blk 239 Hougang St 22, complete with a game of Bingo and chats about neighbourhood happenings. Feliz Navidad!h

Nothing beats a quick getaway after a year of hard work. For the residents of Bedok Reservoir-Punggol and Kaki Bukit, that meant a 2D1N trip to Malacca!

Malacca, a short three to four-hour drive from Singapore, is rich in history, well-known for delicious Peranakan cuisine and of course, the famous Jonker Street that is bustling with activity every night. We also had the opportunity to visit a home factory that produces Nonya kueh and enjoyed a scenic river cruise at night.

Of course, no trip is complete without shopping! We were staying at Hatten Hotel, which was conveniently located right next to a new shopping mall and several other malls in the vicinity. Even after a full day of shopping and dining, our residents still had plenty of energy to continue shopping at night!

Amidst all the activities planned for this trip, we had plenty of fun getting to know one another and it was great to see our residents having so much fun during the trip. Thank you for the wonderful experience and we look forward to organising our next getaway with you!
