SINGAPORE: A serial housebreaker in Clementi has been arrested as a result of a resident's vigilance who prevented a neighbour's home from being broken into.
On Sunday afternoon, Madam Lim saw a man trying to pry open the sliding window pane of her neighbour's unit.
She shouted at the housebreaker, causing him to flee.
Her neighbour was then alerted and the incident was reported to the police.
Officers managed to arrest the suspect later in the evening.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 47-year-old man had successfully broken into another unit earlier the same day.
Police said stolen items worth about S$6,000 were recovered and seized from him together with a sling bag containing four screwdrivers believed to have been used.
The suspect is believed to be involved in at least six other break-ins at Clementi.
He will be charged in court on Tuesday, with housebreaking.
If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison, and a fine.
