I just heard that Alan is in need of financial help and the hat is being passed around to help him while his passport is with the authorities and he can't leave.

Why can't we get a decent foreigner to fight this govt, get some real exposure rather than people who seem to suddenly run out of money in Singapore and seek help from locals.

The moment Uncle Yap got into the act, I knew that the circus is in town.

I hope he does not ask to borrow a sail boat like Gopalan did.

Also, can someone confirm that the charity drive is bonafide as I don't want people getting ripped off.

No need to name names but I getting various replies from individual appeal to someone is coordinating this.

Actually they should not raise a charity like this.

He has a book. So he should provide a web link where people can buy his book to support his actions.

Another thing is he has been "detained" in Singapore for quite some while. So when his case was heard again, my 1st reaction was, this retired ang mo can really tahan so long in Singapore?

Foreigners who wish to dish Singapore, you either do it in Singapore and bring along a lot of money here, or you do it in overseas and don't come Singapore

Why can't we get a decent foreigner to fight this govt, get some real exposure rather than people who seem to suddenly run out of money in Singapore and seek help from locals.

Firstly, as far as I'm concerned, he's not fighting for Singapore. He's writing about his own ideology that clashes with the laws of Singapore. He shouldn't come to Singapore if he's not prepared to fight his own case.

Secondly, I neither want nor need any foreigner to fight for Singapore.

Thirdly, I don't donate money to Government. If you donate money to people who run afoul of the laws, your money will end up with Government through fines and damages. The more you donate to such cases and causes, the more you encourage them to do it again (at donors' cost) and the more of your money ends up with Government.

In fact, you're spending money for inverse effect on your desired outcome, i.e. to get more Singaporeans to be politically aware and educated, so as to achieve a more balanced democratic society. Your money enriches Government and turns off the middle ground that's essential to this hegemony.

That said, if you're personally supportive of his ideology, then it's all in good conscious to donate. Nothing to do with fighting for Singapore. It's your mind and your money anyway.

Actually, by right, his book should be selling very well because of the attention and media surrounding over him and this book.

No issue with your views and I think the majority feel the same. The fact that he resides in Malaysia which also hangs people and whose track record is atrocious from corrupt and incompetent legal, judicial and other govt institutions is also telling.

But it will be good to see the govt start to behave in manner that is fitting.

People faith in their incorruptibility went out of the window with __ Ching and the way that they behave. Love to see how they handle such cases.
