SINGAPORE - Police have arrested seven males, aged between 15 and 18, who are believed to be involved in a series of shop theft cases islandwide.

On Aug 11 2014, the police received a report that electronic appliances were missing and suspected to be stolen from an electronics store located at Changi Airport. Branded gadgets such as video cameras and headphones were believed to be stolen.

Following investigations with the help of security cameras at the airport, the seven suspects were apprehended on Aug 28. Stolen items were recovered from the suspects.

Police investigations indicate that the teens worked in groups, with some acting as look-outs and distracting the sales staff, while others committed the theft.

The suspects are also believed to have cut the wires securing some of the products, and sold some of the stolen items online.

Investigations are ongoing to establish if they had been involved in a handful of other similar cases.

The offence of shop theft is punishable with an imprisonment term of up to 7 years and a fine.
