Air Travel & where to get best deals?

if im rich i would fly jetstar budget class and book rows 50 to 56 aisle and window seats....then i will ask the waitress to bring me a buffet of the best jetstar sandwiches and ala carte movenpick icecream and charge it to my black centurion american express......

u can stick ur chartered jet up ur ass, boss sam.

Boss Sam has just given you an option for alternative air travel. It is true that it is expensive. But when you spread the cost around between all your buddies, it cost less and it has much more benefit then travelling with commercial airline. He has mention the schedule and mad rush to reach the airport on time, checking in and subject to immigration checks as well.

Well , if i want to travel with my families for multiple cities, i would take this route as well for example if i am going New Zealand and USA. It will save me lots of time and travelling.

let me tell u one universal truth about travelling, its travelling with friends is the most pain in the ass....u are better off flying alone with a budget flight then trying to coordinate any trip with a bunch of

It depends what the agenda is. In our case when we use chartered jets when everyone is going to the same place for the same purpose so issues have never cropped up.

can't you read?

I have read their FAQ but they don't disclose the "extras" that will be added until you go through their booking. For example with Air Asia & Jetstar you only find out about their credit card processing fee when you book a flight.

This fee represents adds about 10+% to the ticket prices of a flight to BKK. Then there are the other extras they charge e.g. for seat selection, meals, check-in baggage,....

It is getting annoying flying with the discount airlines:( One of the reasons I switched to Jetstar was because AirAsia tried to sneak in all these extras which I didn't want & it made booking a flight complicated. More like reading the small print of a contract:eek: Obviously they must have received plenty of negative feed back because they have stopped that practice.

Since I will be traveling more, I am looking at various options in airlines & companies. I am a cheapskate but if companies can offer me a service that I'm looking for I'll pay:)

You can't take your money with you so why suffer the indignities that budget airlines inflict upon you. Splurge a bit. You only live once.

Have to agree that it can be a pain flying to some parts of North America. You waste alot of time waiting at airports. Nowadays it is even worse because of all the security checks.

It is a choice of taking a bus or going by car. Unfortunately I can only afford the bus:o

it's true that budget airlines like to add that few dollars for checked-in luggage and seat selection, makan and so on... it works fine on the usual airlines, no gimmicks.

When budget airline 1st started you didn't have to give up much, just the meals & the fake smiles. What attracted me was the convenience. You could do everything online & never had to visit the travel agent,

If it is as convenient with the branded airlines. Then I will fly with them.

Johnny, if you are going to Canada and holiday somewhere may be prudent to check TG you can come Thailand holiday a few days then go Canada. TG tickets seems pretty cheap recently, service not bad too, also you flying full carrier entitle you to more luggage like 30kg for TG. Budget airlines could be expensive with extra loading.

Soryy i I did not check if TG flies to Canada.

drive a car expensive? US pump price cheep cheep compare to spore, ard S$1.45 per litre.

Actually that is a good idea. Many people want to go to LOS, so there must be many cheap flights.
If they fly to San Franciso or Vancouver I can find my way around the US or Canada:)

When I was living in Edmonton, I used to drive to San Francisco. I met some tourists at the youth hostels that actually bought a car in SF & drove to Banff, Vancouver,.... That place has many scenic national parks.

When I was living in Alberta it was only 45 canadian cents/litre.

I was able to tour around western Canada & US for under $200 of fuel :D

Depending on which month of the year, budget flights may no longer cheap these days.
Sometimes you ended up with the ticket that cost you almost the same as those regular
flights ticket and during peak season, it may even cost you more.

Plus the timing of those budget flights is always weird and not many people like it.
Hence people don't mind paying a bit more for those regular flights these days.

TS, there's no hangups to book online with regular airlines. Gone are the days you need travel agent to fix you up. Unless you got a complex itinerary, like round the world thingy. It's just like the demise of the old photo studio in your neighborhood, with the advent of self gadgetry.

As for looking our for cheap flights, there are more than a few search engines with comparative pricing.

Also, you would be surprised that regular airlines can competively price many regional routes -marginally more, even cheaper than budget. As you also say, the latter adds up with luggage + extras. This is especially so with off (or low) season, with promos offered. CX, TG (even SQ) for regular promos.

Sure, budget travel is a niche market -with 1 way routing. And if you can pre-book well ahead, with set dates. Means positive cashflow spin off for airlines.

Budget planes are often single aisle (except Scoot's old SQ planes), so for longer routes can feel a bit claustrophobic. Never mind embarking/disembarking Q

expedia has good flt n hotel promotion now.
even sia joining these cheapskate promotions.

For those planning to vist the smaller towns of Canada/US you can consider a budget airline named Westjet. The last time I visited Canada & wanted to fly between Edmonton & Calgary I took one of their flights.
http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/home.shtml

They have flights from San Francisco, Vancouver to many smaller towns like Edmonton, Calgary,...

Johnny TG only fly to LA for States. Anyway here's the deal I checked a dew minutes ago:

Deal 1 - if you book SIN to LA to SIN (starts from S$2,101.30)

Deal 2 - if you choose to book multi-city that is SIN-BKK-LA-BKK-SIN (price only S$1,651.10) this means you have holiday in Bangkok for a few days before you fly off to LA and on your way back you can also choose to stay for couple of days and relax before going to Singapore. Actually you can also choose to transit only and not stay, this deal is the best but accrual of miles is only 25%)
