Air Line Pilots Association disagrees with SIA's cost-cutting measures

At a time where the entire aviation industry is collapsing or living on government aid, I doubt the pilots will get much public sympathy when they complain about early retirement and a 23% pay cut.

From what I hear around SIA pilots seem to be paid around 200k - 250k p.a. on average and even with a 23% reduction the resulting amount is still way ahead of most PMEs in Singapore.
Pilot are not cheapo jobs so how can their salary be cheap,?
That's why the CEO SIA is drawing super scale salary.

I dare say 90% SIA staff voted for PAP.
I hope they sack everybody and close shop. Because recovery is 4 years away. Why throw good money at lousy staff?
It will also teach people lesson that PAP doea not take care of you.
Now PAP is in a catch-22 situation. They need to do something for the majority who supported them last GE but they will kill the company by doing so.
I cannot dream I will be alive to watch this. Hahaha.

No flying means no flying allowance...their base salary just like a stewardess is probably low and for the pilots maybe 8k to 15k basic depending on seniority so a 20 plus % cut for them is indeed painful since no allowance and bonus for many months already...agree with ckmpd sia is just a horrendous company they ask the lower rank staff to cut 10% whereas the govt wage subsidy which is more than that goes into the company's p and l

Using tax payers $ to? "pad" their p and l in a creative way and cut workers salary just isn't right...anyway who did they vote for

Those who voted for pap deserve pap's bad policies

Yes, glad that you see through sia mgmt's bad schemes. The CEO gets solid pay whereas the pilots and stewardesses get more allowances than their basic pay. Their pay is not very high. No flying means no allowances. so to cut 23% is a lot of money to them after they get zero allowances

See how much CEO gets despite SIA's poor results

The sheep disagree with the knife that is chosen to slaughter them.

Unfair pay cuts will breed discontent in SIA. Look at SIA CEO's pay (post#48) and he gets 35% cut only?

Besides Alpa S, I hope other unions speak up. This will send a message to other companies which are planning to cut costs to be more fair to its lower paid employees

The pilots are the greedy bastards! The airlines industry is doing very badly and they are reluctant to take a pay cut? Make the pilots go drive Grab instead! We've lots of capable pilots from India who can replace them!

Yes, a lot of Ceca Indian will come in. There are lot of jobs waiting at Sgunited career.

That's why pro businesses environment and govt do not like to deal with pesky union.

If they reject the retirement what will happen?
back to the drawing board, renegotiate, arbitration?

SIA must show that it is giving everyone a fair deal to save the company. It cant be the lower salary staff, who are the ones without a voice, who are left holding the baby

Go on strike?

Then they will close the airline down and later start again simple. This is a once in a life time opportunity to reset your business and start again.
Can re-nego the aircraft leasing too it's dreamland for the accountants.

go on strike is a legal possibility. OTC, when he was NTUC Sec Gen, supported a workers' strike

Pilots are just glorified bus drivers. I will ask SIA - how many expatriate aka ah neh Pilots ? Retrench them first. Overseas offices close them. Fat cats in the organisation half their pay. Captains and first officers take 40 per cent cut.
Eagle services is testing water. Next wave is SIA.
agree la

Airline needs Pilots,Cabin crew and mechanics to function.Management, office staff, cuppachino machines, staff club house not required.Recovery is 4 years away if ever.

Business travel will never be that same ever as Co realize teleconferencing works.Plus vaccine needs 6 moths between jabs and not ever test safe or not.

At good times margin per pax is $3 to $15!. Good luck to all.

These bastards are just plain greedy. So what will the PAP do now? Appease the rogue pilots or crack the whip just like what Old Fart did back then? As what Sir John mentioned, there will be whole sqaudron of Ah Neh pilots from India willing to replace these greedy bastards for lesser pay. God forbids our National Carrier smelling of chicken curry and dhals and Ah Neh body odours during long haul flights.

You should ask why utility rates and local property tax remains the same in this conditions. Its a huge mismatch. No incentive for economy to recover.
