Ah Tiong already owns apartment in China but wants to buy HDB flat in Sinkieland

Source : Temasek Timeson March 31, 2012

A PRC man who owns an apartment in China asked fellow netizens on Lion City Forum if he can still purchase a resale HDB flat in Singapore:

“I want to buy a resale HDB flat in Singapore, but I have an apartment in China. Can I still buy? Will it have any effect on my purchase?”

(想在新加坡买转售HDB,但国内有套房,这样的情况可以买吗?会有什么影响吗)

Under a new ruling introduced last year, PRs must declare if they own any properties back home and those who have are not allowed to purchase resale flats unless they dispose their existing property within six months upon the completion of the sale of the resale flat.

One PRC netizen replied:

“Don’t think it matters. Who will go to China and check? Only need two PRs to buy a resale HDB flat in Singapore.”

(没有吧,谁会查到国内去啊…两个pr就可以买了)

Another PRC netizen added:

“Usually won’t check, but you need to sign a document declaring that you do not own properties overseas. If discovered, your HDB flat will be repossessed and the money you paid for it will not be refunded.”

(一般是不会查的,但是你买的时候是需要签一个没有海外资产的文件的,如果查到房子没收,交的钱不会退。)

In most other countries, public housing is reserved for citizens only, but in Singapore, PRs are allowed to purchase resale HDB flats which contributed partially to the sky-rocketing prices in recent years.

Not only are the housing policies lax, PRs are also not subjected to a capital tax gain when they sold their resale flats thereby enabling a number of them to make a hefty profit when they sold their flats and leave Singapore for good subsequently

Arjan feels that alot of them are doing this.

Yes Bro you're right.. Many of these PRs takin advantage of the lax ruling..

They are very rich when returning back to their native countries with the profits obtained after selling their HDB flats..

If you know any of them, intro them to me after they ripped their earning before leaving for good, My parang toh will do the tricks and make sure they donate back to my charities.

Ahh... The paradox of public housing. If you ban sale of HDB flats to non-citizens, you remove a significant chunk of housing demand and prices will fall. The problem was not nipped in the bud and now it's damn if you do, damn if you don't.

The PAP 奴才s and its pliable administration 走狗s cannot be said to be blameless for this mess.

Think this one cannot blame the FTs. Who would not want to exploit such fuck own sinkee policies.

If I FT, I will do the same. Blame on the 60.1% who keep voting the pappies.

Went to Tampenis to visit my parents last nite.. See more and more Ah Neh families becomin flat owners there.. When they sell their flats in few years time, spanking new bungalows waiting for them when they go back home to their Mother India..

Wanna check our dogs and their status? Singapore is a playground for dogs, not the typical Singaporean.

Now in Penang for Cheng Meng. Met many Singaporeans on plane, and in hotel lobby. Even in the hawker centre just now for my char kway teow kosong, i.e. no prawns, meat!

Ah Khaw now back in mudland...

Ah Cow will said, "Never see lim beh enjoying my Penang Laksa mai hum. If nothing serious, don't call me. Even if got something serious, also 'try' not to call me."

Ah Cow back to finish his Penang laksa mai hum.

This kind of policy is biaised against Singaporeans who will be around long term whereas PRs who planned to stay 5 or 10 years will just sell out and run before the govt can even detect any false declaration.
