比林斯将于今年晚些时候正式举行服役仪式，它的母港将位于美国东海岸佛罗里达州梅波特海军基地，和密尔沃基号（LCS 5），底特律号（LCS 7），小石城号（LCS 9），苏城号（LCS 11）以及威奇塔号（LCS 13）被部署在濒海战斗舰第二中队，濒海战斗舰第一中队则位于美国东海岸的加州圣迭戈。

除了单体半滑行船型的自由级之外，LCS项目还有三体船型的独立级，这两型LCS都拥有极高的航行速度，最高航行速度都达到40节以上，同时采用了模块化的“任务包”，可灵活在水面战、反水雷战、反潜战任务中“切换”，但它的武备非常弱，由于“网火”多用途导弹取消，LCS连反舰导弹都没着落，对海只能靠一门57mm的MK110舰炮，防空更是靠“拉姆”和“海拉姆”和2门30mm副炮，被外界指责是“战五渣”。

关键是，LCS单价不便宜，两型舰单价都超过了3.6亿美元，折合24亿人民币，被认为超过了中国海军主力的054A型护卫舰，但后者却是具备正儿八经区域防空和远程反潜能力的护卫舰，LCS整体上火力投射能力只和中国海军的056系列轻型护卫舰相当，只不过船体平台更加先进一些。
