SINGAPORE: A man who made global headlines for suing a woman for S$3 million (US$2.25 million) after she rejected him was charged with cheating in a separate case on Friday (Nov 30).

K Kawshigan, a 31-year-old Singaporean man, was handed one count of cheating for inducing a man to deliver S$2,650 to a bank account for a MacBook Pro that turned out to be fake.

Kawshigan is accused of conspiring with another man, named Cheng Zie Sian, in order to cheat Mr Tan Wei Liang between October and November.

Kawshigan allegedly engaged a courier to deliver a sealed fake MacBook Pro with a legitimate serial number to Mr Tan, who then transferred the money as he believed the laptop was genuine.

He was remanded for investigations and will return to court next week.

If convicted of conspiring to cheat, Kawshigan can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.

He made the news in February when a judgment was released detailing how he launched two lawsuits totalling more than S$3 million against Ms Nora Tan Shu Mei.

Ms Tan had rejected him romantically, and he sued her for several things including breaching an agreement to improve their relationship and for the emotional trauma he suffered after finding out that she only saw him as a friend.

In response, Ms Tan countersued Kawshigan for expenses she incurred to protect herself from his purported harassment, including the installation of a digital door viewer, an alarm sensor and a smart video doorbell.

Kawshigan's case against Ms Tan in the Magistrate's Court was thrown out, while the million-dollar case in the High Court was last shown in the public hearing list to be set for an assessment of damages case conference in September.

A man in Singapore filed two lawsuits against a woman who refused to date him, alleging she caused him emotional trauma after telling him she wanted to be only friends.

The man identified as K Kawshigan, claims Nora Tan damaged his “stellar reputation” and said she brought “trauma, depression and impacts” to his life. He also sought $22,000 or $16,800 in US dollars, in a since dismissed lawsuit claiming she “breached an agreement” to improve their relationship.

Who is K Kawshigan?

According to The Online Citizen, Kawshigan is the CEO of D1 Racing – a drone racing competition. He is also the business development manager of AeroLion Technologies, a drone production company.

Kawshigan and Tan reportedly met in 2016 and became friends over time, but things took a turn in 2020 when Tan found that they didn’t see eye-to-eye on the possibility of taking things further.

Tan saw Kawshigan as no more than a friend, but he considered her as his “closest friend” and was appalled when she felt the need to step back from their social interactions and encouraged him to be “self-reliant.” Kawshigan sent her a letter alleging “monetary damages arising from negligent infliction of emotional distress and possible defamation” and move forward with the lawsuit.

Tan tried to inform him that he was causing her genuine discomfort and that she needed greater boundaries and limits on their interactions.

In April last year, Tan initiated a harassment suit against Kawshigan and stopped attending counseling sessions. Kawshigan sued tan in July, claiming he lost earning capacity and business partnerships as an active high-capital trader by night and a busy CEO by day and additional costs for therapy to overcome trauma.

Tan replied with an expedited protection order against Kawshigan. The now-rejected magistrates’ suit was filed in August.

On Saturday, the judgment said Tan “after years of massaging the claimant’s unhappiness, has finally decided to stand up to his threats rather than cower and give in to his demands.”

The high court suit is set for a case conference on February 9, 2022.
