Man jailed for beating wife
inSing.com Editor
A man defied a court order and returned home to beat up his wife.
Muruka Vairamuthu (age 48) defied his wife’s Personal Protection Order (PPO) three times
On 2 Jan this year, after his wife’s birthday celebration, he punched his wife Mdm Gabrielle (age 34) while she was sleeping, then dragged her from the bed and choked her. He then banged her head against the main door several times. She broke free from him and ran out into the corridor and into a neighbour’s house while naked and covered in blood. She then collapsed and fainted.
At another time, on 22 Nov last year, Muruka demanded sex from his wife before allowing Mdm her to see the children. When she refused, he grabbed her and choked her.
Muruka also became violent towards policemen when they interviewed him about the PPO violation. He confronted a curious neighbour, then shoved a policeman when the officer tried to calm him down.
In court, the prosecutor portrayed Muruka as a man with no qualms resorting to senseless violence, against public servants, acquaintances or his family. The man’s conduct is repulsive, and his attacks savage and relentless.
Muruka was jailed for nine months and will attend an alcohol treatment programme.
