SINGAPORE - There is unlikely to be any hike in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate if the Government budgets remain prudent and the economy continues to grow, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday.

Why he said unlikely?
Can he just said no and there will be no GST increase in next 5 year?

Did he also say there'll be more hangouts if you guys vote wisely???

Ah Loong will say anything now, wait till after election, Ah Loong sing a different tune!

The problem with Ah Loon is that he's a very deceitful person. inherit the bad genes from his dad.

2. No

2. now, the hard truth is there shall be gst hike whether you like it or not.
3. it is not your say, but sheep!
4. what's prudent and growth, it is all sheep's decision and terminology.

I'd think it's unlikely to remain prudent with his wife's hands on the Temasek tills and his father's hands on the GIC tills.

Their losses are no jokes. If this sort of thing happens in another country, there will be massive demonstrations and the culprits will go to jail. But nothing will happen in this sillyland.

Pinky says "Read my lips, I make no promises, ok." Anyone who cannot understand this are daft.

OMG...and we had been told the increase from 3% to 5% and then to 7% was to help the poor. What has the increase in GST got to do with the government overspending? Pinky has again made another Mee Siam Mai Hum/Fix the opposition booboo.

This is outrageous! How are we to help the poor now that GST will not be increased?

So why GST increase to 7% on 2007?
See the following link.

http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2798.htm

Economy
GDP (2009 nominal prices): $182.23 billion.
Annual real growth rate: 8.6% (2006), 8.5% (2007), 1.8% (2008), -1.3% (2009).

The GST is already rather low in Singapore.

In the UK, the GST (called VAT) was 17.5% but was recently increased to 20%

In other European countries, it is as high as 22%

He didn't say not to GST increase. He merely said that provided the economy is good and Singapore has enough funds. As we all know, he is good in fixing statistics to justify why GST is needed once election is over. To believe in him is to believe that snake doesn't eat meat. By than, we have all been tricked.
