Finders are not always keepers: High Court judge

By K.C. Vijayan, Law Correspondent
You find a wallet lying on the floor with cash and identity papers inside. Is it a case of finders keepers?
No, said a High Court judge on Wednesday.
Anyone who comes across a lost item where there is a chance of tracking down the owner should report it to the police.
Justice Steven Chong was explaining why he turned down the appeal of a casino patron fined $2,000 for taking cash from a lost wallet.

Who came up with this idea that finders keepers?

This is a wrong value.

If you take anything which doesnt belong to you.

It is tantamount to stealing and it is a crime.
