Marvel Is Introducing A New Black Female Captain America
Marvel Comics will introduce Nichelle Wright, a new Black female version of Captain America in the upcoming United States of Captain America series

Marvel Comics is set to introduce a brand-new Black female Captain America who will make their comics debut in the upcoming The United States of Captain America #2. Nichelle Wright will be the next hero to become the Captain America of her own city, but she will be framed for a crime she didn't commit: stealing Captain America's iconic shield.
The United States of Captain America by Christopher Cantwell and Dave Eaglesham will see the introduction of a number of new characters who take the role of Captain America across the country. The series will focus on Captain America's shield being stolen and the hero - and other versions of Captain America - traveling across the United States in an effort to find it. Along the way, they'll run into the "Captains," who take the role of Cap as protector of their own homes and cities. The first issue will feature an all-new, gay Captain America in Aaron Fischer. The miniseries will also feature the most iconic Captain Americas, including Rogers, Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, and yes, John Walker.
The United States of Captain America #2 will feature a story from Mohale Mashigo and Natacha Bustos, which will introduce a new Captain America of Harrisburg named Nichelle Wright. Mashigo described Wright to CBR.com as a "light in a dark time" that wants to "take ownership of her community and space in America." Bustos added Wright was one of the characters she was most proud to help create, saying she was proud of what she represents and means for her community. Bustos' design for Wright is stellar. She wears a long duster jacket, with the star emblem on her chest. She also wears a variation of Captain America's mask, but with a hood over it.
Bustos will join both Isaiah Bradley and Sam Wilson as black heroes who have taken on the role of Captain America. While Wright isn't fighting across the globe or working with the Avengers (yet anyways), her job of keeping Harrisburgh safe makes her a hero all the same. The question remains on whether she'll be able to clear her name or whether the mysterious shield thief has pinned his crime on the up-and-coming hero. No matter what happens, readers should be excited to see Nichelle in action. The United States of Captain America #2 is out in July from Marvel Comics.
