Additional transfer fee for transfer of vehicle

Does anyone knows when and why LTA starts collecting additional transfer fee to transfer the ownership of a vehicle? What does LTA do when it collects the amount ranging from a few hundred to a few thousands for changing of hands of a vehicle? Why are we charged for nothing "additional", in goods or services that we are not getting?

Is it justified?

Are you sure it's the LTA who is collecting the additional transfer fee? From what I read in other forums, these so call "transfer fee" are actually "kopi money" collected by the 2nd hand car dealers themselves.

The fact that it is ranging from a few hundreds to a few thousands and not documented anywhere should be clue already mah...

yes and in australia the same mercedes is 2.5X the price of the USA!!
