Accused of siphoning money

A MAN accused last week of pocketing $138,000 from his company was accused of six more similar charges, bringing the total amount to $984,361.
Xie Ming Liang, 55, who was a deputy general manager of Hoo Huat Engineering, allegedly siphoned between $54,920 and $118,751 from the company in Jurong over the last six years.
He is said to have been entrusted with the marine company's sales collections between 2004 and March 2010 when he misappropriated the amounts.
Bail of $1 million was offered. He will appear in court again on Jan 14.
The maximum penalty for the offence - before 2008 - is seven years' jail and a fine, and after February 2008 - 15 years and a fine.
