About 2,600 NS-liable PRs renounced status in last 5 years

It should be 2600 over (7200+2600), which is about 25%, which means that the ministar is seriously correct in this serious calculation of the serious default rate. ;)

The default rate is higher.

If you include those who renounced before they became of NS liable age

Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen said in Parliament today that over the past five years, about 2,600 second-generation male permanent residents (PRs) have renounced their PR status before serving National Service (NS).

Instead, he said that over the past five years, about 7,200 males who became PRs under the sponsorship of their parents, or the so-called second-generation PRs liable for NS, have enlisted for and served NS.

In the same period, he said about 2,600 NS-liable PRs renounced their status prior to serving NS.

In other words, over 25 per cent of NS-liable PRs renounced their status.

Dr Ng said that, as the Ministry of Defence cautioned, these former PRs will "face serious adverse consequences when they subsequently apply to study or work in Singapore.

Why do they not add the tens of thousands male children of PRs, whose parents do not sponsor them as they do no want their kids to have any NS obligation?

After all, it ain't that difficult to apply when they are older.

Even if 90% defaulted, it would not matter as the 10% will become the cream of the crop of Singapore society.

Parents have to pay the consequences. Not in $$$$ but stripped off their PR status and send back to where they come from. This will teach this defaulters their family have to pay (not in $$$$) the penalties

i wish 90% defaulted so they can fuck off back to wherever they came from.

Serious consequences? Like what? these people are sticking up their middle fingers at us.

As what the PRC like to say Singaporeans are too honest and are easily conned.

Why are we even including PRs in our conscripted defense force? They are not citizens. They won't be loyal to the country. It's a freaking security breach!

The best solution is to abolish conscription for all and establish a truly professional defence force consisting of only citizens. And then tax those PRs massively to help fund the force. You will be amazed at the result. Lots more PRs will convert to citizens readily.

Did our Resident Foreign Trash from Malaysia Tonychat serve NS in Singapore or he siam our NS?
