A SpiceJet technician was killed after the landing gear door of the aircraft he was working on got shut at the Kolkata airport on Wednesday.
The incident took place around 1.45 am.

"The technician was carrying out maintenance on the landing gear of the Bombardier Q400 plane when the landing door accidentally got closed and he got stuck there," said an official at Kolkata airport.
A complaint on "unnatural death" was filed at Airport police station, a senior police officer said.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet said in a statement, Extremely saddened to share that our technician Rohit Pandey passed away last night in an unfortunate incident at Kolkata airport.
The SpiceJet added, Inadvertently, the main landing gear hydraulic door closed and he got stuck in between the hydraulic door flaps. The hydraulic doors were broken to rescue Mr Pandey but he was declared dead. The entire SpiceJet family stands together in grief in this unfortunate incident.
A police team visited the spot where the accident happened, the officer said, adding forensic experts will now collect evidence.
"Our officers have reached the spot. We are talking to other staffers of the airline who were present there. We are trying to understand whether it was a technical glitch or the result of someone's callousness," the officer said.
Earlier, Indian aviation regulator DGCA on Tuesday issued safety directions to airlines in the wake of multiple incidents of planes overshooting runways while operating amidst bad weather conditions.

In a circular, the DGCA said, "Aircraft operations during monsoon season poses challenges, which of late have resulted in a number of occurrences."

Issuing various directions to the airlines, the circular stated, "Crew should be well aware of the aircraft limitations and of take-off/landing performance calculations during the adverse weather operations."

On July 1, a SpiceJet flight from Jaipur overshot the main runway after landing at the Mumbai airport amid heavy rains. On June 30, another SpiceJet plane from Bhopal veered off the runway at Surat airport due to heavy rainfall and wind.

NEW DELHI - A trainee aircraft technician died after becoming pincered between a plane's landing doors in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata on Wednesday, the airline said.
Rohit Pandey was working on a SpiceJet Bombardier-developed Q400 turboprop plane when the hydraulic landing gear doors closed, the airline said in a statement.
"The hydraulic doors were broken to rescue Mr. Pandey but he was declared dead," the statement said.

"DGCA has already started an inquiry," Bhattacharjee told Reuters, adding that Pandey was a 23-year-old trainee technician.
In 2017, SpiceJet, a low-cost carrier, agreed to buy up to 50 Q400 aircraft in a deal, estimated to be worth up to $1.7 billion, from Canada's Bombardier. The Q400 aircraft program is now owned by Canadian plane manufacturer Viking Air.
