5G has been around for almost a decade. At first, we had to pay more for the service and now, it is part of most telco plans.

I noticed that 5G is unreliable due to their frequencies. 5G needs clear line-of-sight to work well, otherwise, when I am in my workplace/home/buildings, 4G is more stable and I don't need incredible speed to watch video or sexting online.

It makes me wonder if Telcos were conned to upgrade to 5G amidst the hype 10 years ago and spent huge investments to upgrade the infrastructure. It doesn't really offer much improvement in user-experience. In fact, i noticed that Two-bar signal-strength in 5G can slower than Two-bar for 4G when I am indoors.

ok, let's wait for the real deal. 6G

Since when 5G has been here for a decade?
That 5G was never meant for your mobile communications in the first place. It has many other purposes

6G will be more powerful and will definitely causes more pain to your throat

4G networks enable mobile internet, HD streaming, real-time communication, and basic IoT functions.
In contrast, 5G networks leverage faster speeds, greater capacity, and ultra-low latency for advanced applications like real-time patient monitoring and diagnostic data in healthcare.
Real-Time Patient Analysis: 5G enables rapid transfer of large medical files like CT scans or MRIs in seconds, allowing AI-driven diagnostics to deliver precise results almost instantly, speeding up clinical decisions.
Smart Hospital Infrastructure: 5G supports private networks for efficient equipment tracking, inventory control, and AI-powered video analytics, boosting patient safety, operational efficiency, and service quality.

5G is indeed more unstable than 4G in some places

Upgrading from 3G to 4G requires minimal hardware replacement and backend equipment adjustments. For tower base stations, it involves replacing the antenna with a 4G-compliant one and typically requires little to no changes in the density of base stations.
Upgrading from 4G to 5G requires significant backend changes to 5G equipment, the deployment of additional antenna systems per tower, and the construction of more antenna towers due to the higher frequency transmission that travel at shorter distance.

Which telco do you subscribe to? :wink:

Huawei loses out as Singapore telecom operators choose 5G providers
25 Jun 2020

Singapore’s biggest telecom operators Singtel and StarHub have chosen Ericsson and Nokia as their main 5G network provider

Huawei, which is a focal point in US/China tensions, still has a foothold in the Singapore market through TPG Telecom’s smaller, local network system

TPG = SIMBA
