I have a couple big file videos @ about 2.4 GB each which I would need to compress. I was so happy when I found "Advanced Video Compressor" via CNET free download. It was easy to use and the quality of the compressed video was good. Unfortunately the end product carries the words "Trial Copy, Buy Now !"....nabeh.

I'm used to iTunes, but now I'm left with a Asus PC so I need something that is Windows 7 compatible. Can anyone recommend me a tried and tested freeware ? How does Mediacoder fair ?

Use Linux.:) FOC & Good. All my videos are done with Linux. Hundreds of them all done with Linux.

Powerful reliable FOC & quality.

The tool you want is called ffmpeg a universal Linux video codec wizard, and video audio subtitles if ffmpeg can not do it, then you are mostly trying something wrong or unnecessary.

http://ffmpeg.org/

There are ports of ffmpeg for MS widely used in lots of paid MS video tools which are shames and scams because they use the FOC tools ported from Linux and then ask you to pay them for it.:p

:D I won't be a sucker to pay for these FOC things.

Thanks Uncle. Will give it a try. I downloaded a few free programs, but none could do the trick. The original DVD file is .VOB format. Dunno WTF is that. Couldn't even burn it using Nero burner.

Sorry Uncle. Just checked the website. This one is beyond me ! Too cheem....don't understand the presentation at all.:*:

VOB is only MPEG2. You can copy them to HDD and rename them to .mpg

I'm not technically inclined, for a start.

The DVD is in .VOB format and when you open the file it's broken down into different files, with TS file and so on.

My purpose is to copy new DVDs using the original one. I guess I cannot just drag and drop. I need to "rip" the original DVD and "burn" new DVDs. "Ripping" would mean copying them to my HDD. And then burning from the HDD.

Tried a few freeware recommended on the Net, but none worked.

Not yet. But I think Nero Burner can do the trick.

Nero is a multimedia software company known for its video, music and photo editing products. Several different programs are available through Nero, including file backup, data copying, and data disc creation, which allows users to rip and burn DVDs onto one or more discs without interruption. Nero software is available for both Windows and Linux users.

Insert the DVD you wish to copy into your computer's disc drive. Click on the "Start" button and select "Programs." Scroll down your program list and select "Nero Burning ROM."
2

Click on the "Recorder" menu at the top of Nero's screen. Scroll down and select the "Choose Recorder" option. This will bring up a dialog box. Click on the "Image Recorder" option in the dialog box. Click "Ok."
3

4

Name the file for the DVD copy and select the destination for the file when the "Save As" dialog box pops up. Click the "Save" button. Nero will finish copying the DVD and save the file to your computer.

4

Click "Close" on the Nero screen. The Nero screen will show the list of files you have selected to burn.
5

Select the "Next" button at the bottom of the screen. Select the "Burn" button. A box will pop up showing the burning progress.

The Format Factory in my PC is in Thai. It's kind of difficult for me to understand.
