Pattaya is beri beri quiet during World cup aka “Born Lok” or “Foot Born Lok” especially with such match telecast timings. The match timings cheong with the peak hours of many businesses. And also partly due to the “going to rain or not” weather.

Some pubs/bars/restaurants with regular customers still ok. Now first 3 day nia. Very soon, pawnshops, legal ah longs, finance shops and secondhand shops will have good business when many siam kia punters lose until trousers drop.

Finance/installment shops (powerbuy, easybuy, aeon and umay etc) same tactic, punters use ic card to hire purchase gayphones or motorsais under their names.

This is a funny piece of nicknames (by Thais) for world cup nations

Football team nicknames: From Coffee to Cocaine and Free Sex
The 'exciting and funny' nicknames that makes you laugh

Hosts Russia take on Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the 2018 World Cup on Thursday.

If you read Thai, you are likely to see eye-catching headlines in Thai-language newspapers such as "White Bears face Oil-rich Team".

Every team has its nickname and many teams simply call themselves the team or the national team or use the colour(s) of their national flags as their nicknames.

Thais see this quite boring so they created exciting nicknames for them.

So Russia are called the White Bears (the Polar Bears) by the Thai press and the Saudis the Oil-Rich Team.

Russia's official nickname is Sbornaya (the National Team) and Saudi Arabia's the Green Falcons.

Defending champions Germany's nickname is Die Mannschaft (the Team) but Thais call them the Iron Eagles (thanks to their logo) or the Beer (the country is famous for beer).

Brazil's nickname is Selecao (the Selection or the Team) in Portuguese but they are the Coffee or the Samba in Thailand.

Indeed, the nickname Coffee should go to Colombia whose nickname is Los Cafeteros (the Coffee Growers).

Thais used to call Colombia the Cocaine and this prompted a protest from the country's embassy here during the World Cup in the US in 1994 when they were considered one of the title favourites.

Unfortunately, Colombia were eliminated in the first round following a shock 2-1 loss to the Americans with Colombia's Andres Escobar scoring an own-goal.

The player, who was no relation to Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, was gunned down after he returned home.

Spain's nickname is La Roja (the Reds) or La Furia Roja (the Red Fury) but Thais call them the Raging Bulls.

France's nickname is Le Bleus (the Blues) but they are nicknamed the Cocks (roosters) by the Thai media thanks to the team's logo.

Argentina call themselves La Albiceleste (the White and Sky Blue) but Thais see it the other way round and call them the Sky Blue and White.

Belgium are seen as dark horses for the title in Russia. Their nickname is the Red Devils and Thais think it is already a proper nickname and call them so.

Egypt are quite popular here thanks to Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Their nickname is the Pharaohs but Thais call them the Mummies.

It could be an interesting match when the Mummies take on the Brutals (Uruguay) tomorrow.

Sweden, whose nickname is Blagult (the Blue-Yellow), are called the Free Sex by the Thai press although this is rarely used now.

Their neighbours Denmark are nicknamed the Milk Cows probably because of the Thai-Danish milk brand.

Mexico use El Tri (the Tri-colours) as their nickname because of the colours of their national flag (green, red and white).

However, Thais call them Django, the lead character in the 1966 spaghetti western film of the same name.

Apart from Saudi Arabia, the other four Asian representatives in Russia are Japan, South Korea, Iran and Australia.

Thais call Japan the Samurai or Raw Fish (sashimi), South Korea the White Ginseng, Iran the Persians and Australia the Kangaroos.

South Korea are the White Ginseng as opposed to the Red Ginseng (North Korea) as Thais believe democracy is white and socialism or communism is red.

Interestingly, Iran were used to be called the Khomeini's Players by the Thai press.

As for Thailand, the national side only got their official nickname the War Elephants only a few years ago. Judging from the team's recent performances, there is still a long way for the War Elephants to make their World Cup debut.

Siam kias love nicks especially if the name either too long or very difficult to pronounce.

True tv have both england and thai language telecast. England language is from jiu hoo astro or astra channel. Thai language one is from one of the free to air public channels (ch3,5,7,11 etc, take turns to broadcast matches) and is FREE!!!! Because all the tv stations have enough sponsors.

Personally, prefer watch the thai language one because of the exciting thai commentaries. England one is damm boring. Exciting match can become boring because of boring england commentators. Thai sports commentators, on the other hand, very daring and creative. In the past, even have vulgarities but was banned after parents complained "too much rough language in football commentaries) as many futbol viewers are still schooling kids. Also have HT and FT viewers live phone in (actually not really live, got delay).

U-tapao hub bidding terms due in October
c1_1486150_180616111003_620x413.jpg

The government expects to announce bidding terms for an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub worth 11 billion baht in October and to name the winning bidder and sign the contract in the first quarter of next year.

Kanit Sangsubhan, secretary-general of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Office, said the MRO hub at U-tapao airport is meant to support the flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and aviation flows throughout Asia.

The MRO hub is the second infrastructure project under the corridor after the government announced bidding terms for the high-speed railway linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-tapao airports. The railway project is worth 224.5 billion baht.

The government is preparing a 500-rai plot of land for the MRO hub, with 200 rai of the total is reserved for Thai Airways and Airbus, which signed a memorandum of understanding. Air Asia is also interested in investing in the hub at U-tapao and has requested 60 rai.

Authorities held their first "market sounding" to gauge interst and answer questions from businesses about the U-tapao project, with 200 companies taking part including GMR Group Airport, Enterprise Singapore, PTT Group, CP Group and King Power.

A submission of questionnaires will take place on June 22, and a second market sounding will occur in September before the bidding terms are formally announced.

Navy chief Naris Pratoomsuwan said the capacity of U-tapao would be upgraded to handle huge volumes of passengers, freight and aircraft.

The upgrade includes airport expansion with the construction of a second runway and taxiway, as well as a third terminal and development of aviation-related industries, including MRO facilities, an aviation training centre, a cargo village and a commercial precinct.

"U-tapao airport is located on 6,500 rai and is being upgraded to serve as the third main commercial airport outside Bangkok," Adm Naris said. "This project is expected to handle 15 million passengers in the next five years, 30 million in the next 15 years and 60 million in the next 20 years."

Luechai Sri-Eamgool, director of the U-tapao Airport Authority, said the government would invest in a second runway of 3,500 metres in length, to begin work in 2019 and finish in the next five years.

The new runway will support the largest passenger aircraft lincluding the Airbus A380, Rear Adm Luechai said.

World Cup kicks off huge illegal betting spree
June 19, 2018 01:00 By The Nation

Police join with banks, AMLO to stem tide of online football gambling.

WITH SOME 3,000 football gambling suspects nabbed in just the first five days of the Fifa World Cup, police have joined with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo), 36 banks and the e-money service provider Telco in monitoring for suspected online gambling money transactions, Amlo chief Romsit Wiriyasan said yesterday. The banks and Telco will alert police or Amlo about suspicious transactions for investigation, he explained.

Those involved in online football gambling – including punters, bookies, web owners and administrators, bank account holders and those who benefit – would face criminal prosecutions and asset seizure under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, Romsit warned.

Police have vowed to continue monitoring “gambling-prone venues” such as night entertainment sites, Internet cafes and computer-game shops. Meanwhile, Technology Crime Suppression Division units, including Amlo’s “cyber patrols” will monitor gambling websites and gather evidence for prosecution, Romsit said.

In addition to the current gambling crackdown, Romsit said that his agency will also apply the transaction monitoring method to 26 types of crime, with a hotline by which banks and Telco could alert authorities.

Police also beefed up security at gold shops, banks, ATMs and convenience stores in case desperate debt-ridden gamblers resorted to thefts and robberies, said police spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen.

During May 1 to June 17, police handled 2,751 football gambling cases covering 2,827 suspects, including more than 250 suspects in Bangkok alone, Krissana said.

Punters arrested
A total of 107 football bookmakers were targeted with 111 suspects netted, 2,536 football-gambling cases with 2,574 punters arrested, and 33 ticket-runner cases with 36 suspects nabbed. For online gambling, there were 30 bookie cases with 42 suspects arrested and 45 online football-gambling cases with 64 punters netted. Police also seized Bt520,247 cash, Bt1.5 million-worth of football betting tickets and another Bt12,825 in bankbook, he added.

A specialised centre for football gambling suppression was set up on May 1 by national police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda. It will operate under the helm of Pol General Chalermkiat Srivorakan, the deputy national police chief, until the World Cup tournament is over on July 15.

Chalermkiat revealed that 100 out of the estimated 100,000 Internet gambling websites were administrated by Thais and based in the country, mainly in and around Bangkok, and police were gathering evidence to apply for court orders to shut them down.

This World Cup has seen an increase in football gambling cases because more people have access to gambling websites via smartphones, said Chalermkiat. He added that 10 “Net Idols” from Thai social media who are accused of promoting football betting would testify to Bangkok police tomorrow.

In case anyone wonder who got arrested. Of course me safe and sound. But local online betting sites are no-no. Mata work with local banks to track transactions. Internet cafe also no-no. Too many spies around.

Better removed all futbol apps or messages from handphone. Road block spot check will ask to see your mobile phones and search your bikes for any illegal stuff.

Best is stay at home watch/punt or go to only familiar places. If see stranger behave suspiciously, means either spies or zheng hu lang.

This year they are determined to kill many chickens to warn many monkeys.
