I am unsure who was the fucker who install this screen saver on the server, I was unaware of it initially. All I had to do was to backup data which require estimated 30 mins.

The fucking screen brightness will very gradually dim itself very unlike the usual power saving modes. It dims by I think 1% every 5 seconds or so, and takes 7~8 mins to go to 50%.

I am familiar with those screen saver which would dim screen from 100% brightness to 50% after time out e.g. 2 mins no keyboard / mouse activity, it will take at the very most 1 second to change from 100% brightness to 50%. But this crazy idiot, will just SLOWLY DIE, SLOWLY DIM - You don't notice the changes until it became too much!

I fucking though it was my eyes and I was falling asleep. I kept looking at the backup progress bar, and then back to my handphone, each time it gets harder to see!

For a moment I thought the LCD screen is fucked up like in some other servers. But until I moved the mouse, it instantly went to 100% brightness again.

Phua Chee Bye! Caused me to wake up from my 50% sleepiness.

Annoying screen saver! I deleted it!

Diu!

conventional screen saver is to maintain screen activity and “randomize” brightness on every pixel in order to prevent burn-out of any spot on the crt screen, but with lcd and led backlit it’s not as critical anymore. however, you should continue to have battery saver software to dim the screen and shut it off when there’s hardly any activity. this is both helpful and necessary with laptops, tablets and smartphones as screen brightness consumes much of the battery life. if your devices are constantly plugged in, you should be able to deactivate the option.

Dim down the screen by the VGA color pallet is the common stupid way to pretend saving power. Because this does NOT cut off the back light source power at all, it is still warm / hot wasting power, only caused LCD pixels to block away the light with the back light source still at full brightness. Only in laptops / tablets where screen is fully controlled by the same unit of hardware, they can write to control dim down the back light source, actually saving power. OLED dim by color pallet is OK because there is no back light source. For servers and desktops which hooks up by HDMI / DVI there is no real way to save power unless, cut off the V-sync H-sync to put screen to standby - the back light source will cut off. These panels are usually IPS types.

To put a dim screen saver is quite useless unless the guy sitting in front find it glare or irritation to eyes. I set servers to BLANK screen saver, that means screen goes standby after time out. Saves power. You wake it up by touching keyboard / mouse.

how about this kind of screen saver?
