Recently I was in the mrt and saw this incident.
A kid probably not more than 6 years old was seated in the priority reserved seat. His grandmother was seated beside him.
As the grandmother was talking to him, the kid was shouting loudly in mandarin.

"Why do the old people walk so slowly, does that mean they are going to die?"
"Why is that woman so ugly?"
" I am not going to listen to you, why should I listen to you, I am not feeling happy, I am feeling very upset.", in response to his grandmother's cajoling and then scolding to be quiet.

I don't think he had a problem with hyperactivity or attention-deficit disorder, since he remained seated all the time.
But he continued shouting in very clear and coherent mandarin.
Wondering whether there is some kind of illness that causes such behaviour in a very young child. Or is he simply an extremely spoilt brat who has somehow learnt to be very vindictive?

Spare the rod, spoil the child.

In the old days, if the parents couldn't get the job done, the teachers in school would finish the job.

Oh, and nowadays grandparents are nothing more than free/cheap daycare centres for the brats.
Not that I endorse daycare centres, but it is clear that grandparents are exploited.

bro,

am sure you're pretty well versed in 三字经, 养不教父之过, 教不严师之惰 :eek::eek:

I get your point, but the things he said were really quite vindictive.
Not even your typical normal spoilt brat would be capable of this.
Just wondering if there is any special type of illness or defect which causes this.

all they need to do is watch the programs churned out by the TV :D:D:D
a young child is very much like a sponge, soaking up every bit of stuffs they see and imitating every bit they've learned :eek::eek:

Give tat kid afew tight slaps will keep his mouth shut if I was the grand! Will teach him something out of the text book, some unspoken rules and regulation or say "soft skill" learning!

Sorry bro, but I find that rather hard to accept.
Most kids of that age are yelling that they want the sweet or they don't want to stop running, etc.
Can't even recall any tv program that has someone saying that the old person is walking funny because he is dying.

My best guess would be that he hears this from the parents quarelling and they shout nasties at each other.
It would still require a really strange kid to imitate such words.

Let me say that members who have children can understand a child's behavior better than those who never had any kids or who abhors kids in general.

SG Education System has failed? Did it produce irresponsible young Singaporeans who know nothing abt good parenting?

or could it that the child has ADHD or autism?

Can you explain the child's behaviour especially the content of his shouting, viz. the comment about the elderly person walking funny and about to die?

Not sure about this one. Hoping someone can throw some light, especially in view of what he said.
The child seemed to be intelligent enough, in a vindictive way.

Kids at the age of 5 - 6 are still not able to understand and reason as we adults. There is no intent of malice or evil in what they say. They learn words from adults and TV and repeat what they know without knowing the actual meaning. When a child is upset he will say it or show it unlike adults who can hide their feelings. A child at that age is still very innocent.

bro,

the young parents these days grew up as latched key child in their teens during the 80s, parenting is a skill set to be learned too :o:o:o

Ok bro, thanks for the explanation.
But as I told zhihau, difficult to accept.
I would be able to accept the child holding tantrums that he wants the sweet or commenting without inhibition that someone looks strange.
But stretching it when they talk about an elderly person walking slowly because he's about to die.
Makes you wonder whether the parents or the grandparents have heard these comments and told him it was wrong to say such things. I'm convinced there's something more in that case than an innocent child without understanding or inhibition.

In both Adhd and autism, the kid will not be paying attention to u when u're talking to him/her. They are in their locked-up world of their own, their own realm but don't be surprised that there are savants in a group of autistic kids! I shall say totally amazing, highly talented kids...

Let me guess, that particular cabin that you were in is called sinikeland :D

He is only a child of 6 years old, this is the stage where he is beginning to learn from whoever there to guide him, besides Windsor who could saw that.

All of you are quick to pass judgement and are no better yourself as guardian.

As you said, blame the adults not the kids if they misbehave in public. A caution here, slapping and scolding kids in public is also embarrassing for parents. I prefer taking the kid aside and talk to them away from public eyes. Remember too that curtailing a kid's natural exuberance too much will only end up with them growing up shy and timid. There is no such thing as the right or wrong way in the bringing up of kids as they are all individuals in their own right. Parents may have 2 kids and one can be a criminal and the other someone any parents can be proud of, despite both having been raised in a similar environment.

They might misbehave and be manipulative, but not to the extent of being malicious, vindictive or vicious.

That is just a gradual maturation of becoming a full blown Sinkie.
