A Political Hot Potato

Yes certainly. What are the countries in the world that bans abortion?

I am glad that you are against killing of innocent life too. Do you know that many tens of thousands of babies were aborted by the pap? Do you know the trauma to their mothers?

Women have the right to choose. Its not PAP that got them pregnant you know? Its people like you.

These imports will be grateful and vote PAP for sure.
PAP's share of votes will surely increase.

I suggest you start targeting your anti govt and anti immigrant message to these immigranst to win their vote sfor 2016.

I have nothing against the migrants because they are here to work and make a better life for their families and themselves. I wish them well. But I blame the pap for their selfish motives which will bring in many social problems for SG, Singaporeans and the migrants.

if you have the opportunity, speak to some of these migrants and you will know that many of them have been exploited by the agents. They have to fulfil their two year obligations at tremendous costs because they can't afford to be sent back as they have borrowed money to come to the "land of plenty" SG and they are compelled to slave for two years.

I had the opportunity to speak to a cleaner last week. He came from a village in China and has two children, a wife and parents in China. He gets S$500 a month working 8 hrs a day. Accommodation is provided by the agent. His contract is for two years. He sends back $300 a month and uses S$200 a month for his food. He tries to work overtime to abt 10 to 12 hrs per day so that he can get $800 per month to send back more money to his family in China. My heart goes out to him and others like him.

I think SG shd not exploit such labour. We must be gracious and take care of our workers. He is someone's father, someone's son, someone's husband. We dont wish what he has to go through to our loved ones. so we shd not treat him so

I was told by a friend that she was shocked when a pretty PRC admin lady just stripped off her underwear and sat on the throne to ease herself without closing the toilet cubicle door because many China toilets have no door. She was unfazed to be bottomless, spread on the toilet seat. Would any SG gal not be appalled?

Minorities in Singapore have for years been treated as invisible when in the company of the Singapore majority who cheerfully exclude them by using Mandarin. Often this was not an oversight but a calculated attempt to show their power. Sorry no sympathy from me.

PAP isn't selfish, if we did not have these imports, we would have been poorer and less developed.
Had PAP been selfish, they could easily stop these immigration and gain votes.
Our birth rate is far from replacement, we will suffer pain pain if we do not accept new immigrants.

If its so bad, why did so many want to come?
Many have prospered and went home to build homes and businesses and provided for their families.

He gets less than $100 a month and kena even worst working conditions in China if he stayed home.
If indeed you pity him, why don't you give him some money?

If we were not so screwed up to have a Stop at 2 policy, we would not have to bring in FT in such numbers and be accused of exploiting cheap labour and be marked down on our human rights rating. The only reason why we have the Stop at 2 policy is that the Govt thought that everybody will obediently procreate to 2 and stop there. People are different from robots. They can choose to produce 2 kids or they can also stop at one.

Assimilate? dear madam, better not say that. Pauline Hanson in Australia said that 13 years ago and migrating Singaporeans in Australia still form ghettos among themsleves. Live and let live. Assimilation? there is no such thing.

Pommies invaded and colonized Asian countries in the 1800s and in Singapore they set up their own food and retail shops and Orchard becomes their ghettos places to meet among their own white people. They live in district 9 and 10 and no where else. It is a vicious cycle.

A political hot potato which may accelerate the demise of the PAP is the huge influx of PRCs. The influx has caused many social problems which the pap is trying desperately to mitigate.

This can be a serious problem because the locals will not take it lightly as the PRCs are in SG and not China and it is incumbent for themj to assimilate rather than they expect Singaporeans to accommodate them.

These have caused some friction among the local Chinese and PRC migrants. The PAP has its work cut out for its bad policy of liberally letting in so many foreigners, thinking that it is a panacea to SG's problems. Instead this will bring more problems to SG

Whats wrong with the PRC? It help keeps cost low for everyone and they get to retire back home with their pay when the times comes. PAP call it a "win-win" situation.

Whats wrong with not closing the door? You have never seen it before? You are too ashamed of your own body? Why can't they keep it open? There is no law that says they can't? Its in the toilet, only females will see it. Plus lesbianism is encouraged in the country as well. Singaporeans have been taught this and that without thinking of alternatives for a long time. Maybe you should see it as an opportunity to view thinks differently.

On one end are the PRCs. They come from poor villages, unused to sophisticated city life, bring in their bad habits and idiosyncracies and 3rd world mentality. Such is the great divide between SG Chinese and PRCs. Singaporeans are also perturbed by the littering, jumping of queues and talking loudly by these PRCs.

I wouldn't go so far as most Singaporean converse in English or are used to it. Singaporean converse in SINGLISH, pidgins of Hokkiens, malay, weird accent mixed together with no coherent structure to "non-native" speakers. Do you expect anyone to assimilate to a culture that have no official support from the government? I myself, prefer Mandarin, Hokkien, what ever their native speaking tongue is when the opportunity arise. Perhaps this video should clue you on why they hate Singaporeans so much as well. If you can't understand perhaps you need to learn some Mandarin yourself.

On the other end are SG Chinese. These Singaporeans are used to conversing in English and are not comfortable to speak to the new PRC migrants who can only speak in their native heavily accented mandarin. The PRCs looked pissed by these Chinese Singaporeans who prefer to use English in SG to the extent that the PRCs despise the local Chinese. This can be a serious problem because the locals will not take it lightly as the PRCs are in SG and not China and it is incumbent for themj to assimilate rather than they expect Singaporeans to accommodate them.

PAP has no problem letting in more PRCs, they have their work cut out convincing idiots that believe things can be solve with a brush of stroke.

Don't blame teh govt, blame yourself for not being productive bro.

if they have to remain in SG, it is our hope that they can assimilate and integrate into SG society

You may think that there is nothing wrong with the liberal and huge influx of PRCs into SG. You may think that they strain the infrastructure nor cause social problem. But, fortunately, the pap agrees with me and are taking actions to manage this hot potato.

The pap has taken small steps to control the import of cheap PRC labour and make renewals more stringent. The pap has also announced that they are looking for more quality migrants. The pap has tried to limit the quantity and improve the quality of PRCs into SG.

So do u still think that u r right abt your opinions?

The bulk of imports are people below 30.
The govt stopped this policy about 30 years ago so you cannot blame govt.

I guess the people have really shown their appreciation by giving them a lower popular vote this time around, given the Opp WP a GRC, and made the pap lose some Ministers. No other moment in the history of Singapore has the PAP received such an overwhelming show of love and gratitude. Don't you agree?

Come GE2016, if they do more of the same, I am sure we'll show that in the popular votes for the PAP and more seats in Parliament for the Opp.

Actually the opposite is true, we really appreciate our govt for allowing these immigrants into our country. They benefit us both in the long and short term.
They lower cost of living here and make up for the low birth rates among singkies and keep our economy going.

How do you know? 30 yrs ago, you were still swimming in yr Papa's balls.

Good points u raised! The 40% are strongly entrenched and know the evil scheme of the pap. Many of the 60% are being enlightened. Despite some forumners here trying to defend the pap, it is a futile exercise.

Come the next GE, I will not be surprised if many GRCs fall to the APs and many anchor ministers are voted out. If GY can be voted out in 2011, what chance do LSS, MBT, WKS, RL, VB, LHL have in 2016? even GCT may not be fielded as he lost too many votes in 2011. With LKY and GCT likely to be out in 2016 and the rest of the ministers are fairly light weight, I see the pap having problems retaining some GRCs. I think many ministers will ask to be retired instead of being humiliated..I think GCT, LSS, VB, MBT, RL, WKS, LHK, LTY may ask to be spared. They will try to make hay while the sun shines from now until the next GE...$6m per minister for the next four years can give them a good life overseas

Exactly. When govt thinks that people are robots and will do as instructed they are wrong. That wrong, the Stop at 2, set us back 20 years. When they next do a U-turn, thinking that their mistake can be corrected overnight, they are wrong again because people are not robots.

They look at the rise of their income if any, look at the cost of living, the cost of housing, the cost of transport and the cost of a maid with the maid levy. They find out that they will need two incomes to make ends meet and they need to save to accumulate enough cash for their flats and to delay their marriages to wait for their BTOs.

So babies have to wait. Singapore is an Asian society. Normal couples do not produce babies out of wedlock. Did the govt do enough to make having more babies a matter of fact thing to do? No.

So the FT policy is not only a recognition of a failed past policy that have set us back 20 years, it is also a demonstration of failed govt actions to support a reversal of this policy by encouraging people to produce more. Now we are seeing yet another failure of not planning enough to support this FT policy.

Don't ask me to debate with you anymore. My heart cannot take it because of frustration and sadness.
