Dear PM Lee,
First let me offer my sincere condolences for managing to garner only 60% of the votes at GE 2011, nevertheless I’m sure that obtaining your much sought-after mandate must be of immense consolation to you.
Incidentally, the reality that 60% of the votes somehow translates to 93% of the seats in parliament is, in my opinion, a more apt definition of “freak result”. But as most local politicians would say… it has already happened, let’s move on.
So that brings me to my first suggestion, and that is… you guessed it… abolish the GRC system. If you still need a reason why, then I’m afraid you have completely lost the plot. Thanks to your much-flawed GRC system, there could even be a scenario where you could receive less than 50% of the votes and STILL secure the majority of seats in parliament. Mind-boggling, isn’t it?
I also have a few suggestions on how you can fine-tune your Cabinet and really redeem yourself in the eyes of the many disgruntled Singaporean “born-and-bred” citizens, but it does require a lot of gumption on your part… as your selection would not be restricted only to the once-almighty-but-now-faltering ruling party.
Please consider seriously… appoint Chen Show Mao as Minister of Foreign Affairs, he is much-travelled with extensive experience working in the US, China and Hong Kong. Next you should replace WKS with Sylvia Lim as Home Affairs Minister, being a former police inspector would certainly deem her more competent at keeping detainees in check. WKS can take over Yaacob as Minister of Environment, since he is already so full of shit anyway. Yaacob is no longer suitable for that particular role because he is still clueless as to where the “plug” is located, even after nine years at the helm. Currently the highest ranking ‘minority’ in parliament, he can take over the enviable position of Speaker of the House. I’m sure Abdullah Tarmugi would be more than happy to teach his old buddy how to operate the stopwatch.
Problem solved!
Now what do we do abt MBT? He has already messed up three ministries. Are you willing to risk giving him a fourth ministry to play with… and inevitably botch it up as well? My suggestion is to put him in PMO where you can keep a close eye on him and make sure he doesn’t screw up yet again, he seems to have a rather high tendency to do just that. Don’t you agree?
At this juncture, I have yet to decide on who would be most suited to take over the mantle of Minister of National Development. That one poses a genuine conundrum as MBT has created numerous problems of such monstrous proportions that simply have no easy quick-fix, but I’ll keep working on it… as I trust you would be doing likewise.
And lastly… the annoying TPL fiasco. I must say I’m quite shocked at your decision to screw SM Goh in such a manner, dumping on him a sub-standard individual who almost single-handedly caused the entire Marine Parade team to teeter dangerously on the brink of defeat. I bet SM Goh is secretly hoping the police case regarding the cooling-off day incident would ultimately implicate her, thus helping his cause in finally ridding himself of her once and for all. SM Goh and residents of MacPherson can then collectively breathe a sigh of relief. By the way, wouldn’t TPL’s dismissal warrant a by-election? Woo-hoo! WIN-WIN!
Enough said!
Please do not hesitate to consult me on any other issues concerning your Cabinet line-up, I’d be more than happy to offer my humble input. I consider this my duty as a citizen of this nation that we, the local talent, call home.
Yours sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen
