The speed limit for heavy vehicles ranges from 40 to 60 kilometres per hour.

SINGAPORE: Over the last three years, some 970 heavy vehicle drivers have been caught speeding.

The Traffic Police has also found 33 heavy vehicles which had their speed limiters tampered with in the past three years.

The speed limit for heavy vehicles ranges from 40 to 60 kilometres per hour.

With the limiter, a heavy vehicle is unable to go beyond that speed range.

But some drivers tamper with the limiters so that they can make more deliveries in a shorter time and earn more in a day.

To tackle this issue, some drivers suggested that the Traffic Police reward those who drive safely.

An example would be to give a S$100 voucher to heavy vehicle drivers who maintain a clean record for a year.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Police will increase the frequency of checks to ensure the speed limiters function properly.
