SINGAPORE: Eight drug traffickers and 89 drug offenders were arrested in an intensive 48-hour Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) operation conducted from Monday to Wednesday.

CNB also seized about 625 grammes of heroin, 235 grammes of methamphetamine, or ice, and other drugs such as cannabis, ketamine, Erimin-5 and ecstasy, with a total street value of nearly S$170,000.

In one case during the raids, CNB officers arrested two Singaporean men and a Malaysian man in Outram on 25 June.

The first Singaporean was caught with about 370 grammes of heroin, 183 grammes of ice, 1,171 Erimin-5 tablets, and other drugs. The second Singaporean was caught with 245 grammes of heroin and 20 Erimin-5 tablets.

Both men were suspected to have collected the drugs, found on them, from the 22-year-old Malaysian man.

All three have been charged with drug trafficking and may face the death penalty.

In another case, CNB officers arrested two suspected street-level drug pushers and a drug abuser in Simei.

The two are being investigated for drug trafficking. They face a minimum sentence of five years of imprisonment and five strokes of the cane if convicted.

CNB said it would continue with its vigorous enforcement action against illicit drug activities to maintain a strong deterrent presence against both drug traffickers and abusers alike.
