Roughly Translated:

Scavenging items for decades and had bundles of one hundred dollars in cash hidden at home, she has in the bank, deposits of $ 250,000.

The old woman picking up items in Geylang for decades, pickup paper cartons, cans. She would tie up the money in bundles of $100 with rubber band and deposit in the bank .

Over the years, the woman managed to save more than $ 250,000. But in recent years, the woman discovered that her bunch of money has been tampered with.

The old lady has a 45-year-old daughter and 2 grandchildren living with her in Geylang Bahru HDB rental.

The old lady told reporters, "I scavenging around for decades and never rely on someone. I will tie the money into a bundle and put it in the bank, but in the last decade, I did not deposit as I was unwell and weak. "

On the missing hard-earned money, the woman shouted, "sad". She said "The daughter is 'silly woman', gave birth to a son and daughter with a Chinese from Myanmar who later abandoned her."

The old lady said they had lived with her for many years but the daughter had never contribute to the family and is always at home and now also stole her money.

Wow $250,000 by doing karung guni. That's way better than leetahbar who leeches on society in his 50s!

This proves that the elderly in our society picking up cardboard boxes & aluminum cans don't need gov't welfare entitlements like in western countries that are now facing national bankruptcies & sovereign debt defaults.

SG's elderly population look poor on the surface but each of them is at least quarter-of-a-millionaire in terms of cash liquid assets. Most of them have 'secret' stash of cash hidden somewhere. They may even act as beggars in public.

On the other side of the coin: Don't let a young professional driving the latest model Merc or Beemer deceive you that he is rich. His expenses and debts are very high to maintain his rich appearance on the surface but he's actually poor.

Don't let appearance deceive you.
