<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> EIGHT people will be brought to caught on Friday morning for motor vehicle insurance fraud. One of them, a 38-year-old man, was suspected of staging a road traffic accident to make insurance claims for damages and personal injury.

The others, aged between 21 and 53, are believed to have conspired to cheat the insurers by engaging law firms to initiate personal injuries proceedings against the insurers. All eight suspects will be charged in court with cheating and face jail of up to 10 years and a fine, if convicted.

One of the suspects faces an additional charge of reckless driving with a fine of up to $3,000 or jail of one to a year. Mr Ong Hian Sun, Director of the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) warned: "Police take a very serious view of such offences. We will not hesitate to take firm action against perpetrators of such crimes.'
