What Halimah has that other usual elitist potential PM candidates don't -

Halimah is not just capable of holding the Speaker's position. She has far more potential than that. Singapore should exploit her strengths. The Speaker's position should be seen as only a stepping stone to greater goals. The following is my list that I see Halimah has characteristics other PM candidates don't.

1. She is not the usual PAP Chinese elitist - Haven't we had about enough with all the elitist Chinese cultured leaders who keep talking as if Singapore is a province of China? Many top PAP leaders talk about how important it is to preserve our roots, only then to mention about Chinese roots. Huh? As if there are no non-Chinese Singaporeans!

2. She's not from the Islamophobic SAF institution - More important than #1, is the fact that she is not a product from the Islamiphobic SAF, which always mints robotic scholars who echo that the Northerners and Southerners "are out to usurp" Singapore. This fearmongering by past SAF leaders have created much animosity between Singapore and its neighbours.

3. She's from the heartlands - Yes, she's from the heartlands. And she still is. She's currently living in a 5-room HDB flat. She's been living there the last 30 years. Now which MP and/or Minister can be that close to the people of Singapore? The fact that she never moved out, and even does not want to move out in spite of being "promoted" to Speaker, tells us that her heart is always with the people of Singapore, rather than with the elitist leaders.

4. She portrays a non-Chinese Singapore govt face - For too long, whenever the leadership of Singapore is portrayed to the world, it is always a Chinese face. So much so, many have linked Singapore nearer to Taiwan, HK and even mainland China, rather than with SE Asian nations.

Sad to say this but the very first reason "She is not the usual PAP Chinese elitist" disqualify from the PM or any other important post by the very usual PAP Chinese elitist.

If Halimah is nominate for PM, I am ready for a non-Chinese PM, even from PAP. The traits that I like about her - she is rationale, humble, from the heartlands and she is a pure breed Singaporean! Not your FT turned Singaporeans bullshit MP. But.. she must promise to kick out all those useless idiots in her party.

"What she isn't" are not good reasons why she should be PM, because these points [1. a PAP Chinese elitist, and 2. From the SAF] are not self evident reasons why a candidate might be a bad choice for PM. I agree with point 3 [3. heartlander], but as for point 4 [4. a non-chinese singapore head of government] that is plain rubbish! How is it bad to be associated with East Asian countries rather than South East Asian ones?

I am reminded that the blogger is a Chinese Muslim (converted to Islam after marriage, if my memory serves me well), and so his views are coloured by his own family background, as do all of us. However he has given a multitude of poor reasons to justify his preference, which only goes to show this man is not debating on an objective, rational basis. His words should be rightfully discounted.

Three strikes against Halimah:

1. Muslim (with funny headwear).

2. Female.

3. Less-than-stellar credentials within the PAP.

If the PAP wants to play the 'affirmative action' card and placate the Malay-Muslim comunity by promoting one of their people, it's more likely for her to become the President. Tony Tan a.k.a the '35% KFC Tan' and uncle/cousin of the Lees probably won't live for too long.

Yes halimah is perfect candidate for president.

1. Well trained in art of Jiakliaobee
2. Union credentials
3. Obedient puppet
4. Minority race
5. First female
6. Pap potty trained

Yes, I agree she would be an excellent choice for head of state sometime in the future.

Nah, they should nominate her for President next time round. She would be really excellent.

If she continues to stay in Yishun, wonder where will her security detail be stationed. Speaker of Parliament should have some form of Security outside the house I assume?

Agree with this. The pro m&d party next door is already so racist now with one of their own as the leader of the country and she's a female wow chinese singaporeans are going to be screwed even bigger time. It's odd some sinkie chinese love to get screwed big time.

Honestly can anyone think if the situation were changed. If malays were the majority would they want a chinese as a pm? If the indians were the majority would they want a mlaay or chinese pm? The answer is pretty obvious big NO they would select their own to be the pm and that's fine but only the chinese have to feel guilty if they want a chinese leader.

female pm sia bro quite difficult for you to write it out cos you so pro malay but anti pap shows you actually hate pap more.

They will get a Baiyee with his wooden bed with the India Hemp sleeping outside her door... Jaga! tuan! jaga!!

the only reason why I would disagree with the blog post is cos she does not have the intellectual gravitas/force of a tharman or shanmugam.
It could be cos she is a potty trained pappy.

And she has not actually spoken up much for the m&ds and I am not sure she has made much impact on union matters in the nat'l level,

But otherwise, she seems more leader type than pinky and the other urine scholars and relatives in the cluster jerk cabinet.

It will be a disservice to spore if we reject people of good caliber cos they not urine color as the pappy govt does.
It's racist policies are worse than the m&d one, if anyone bothered to read up on the m&d bumi policy, it was never abt robbing chan to give to ahmad, it was actually about taking from john to give to ahmad so he can catch up with chan.

Najib is a much more effective leader than pinky is, in terms of charisma and nat'l policy and mudland politics is more developed and more democratic, nothing is hidden and people can bring up issues, not like spore and the lawyer letters

We r in the obama century, spore needs to get out of this racist policies to become a good cty otherwise it will get subsumed by the m&ds around it.

Dont be racist, we all sporeans, not m&d sporeans, not urine sporeans and not shit sporeans.
the pap separate us with their racist policies, what happened, we end up like this, in the crap.
so think. she is a sporean, than she is a m&d.

so dont be racist la, tolong :)
