BEVERLY HILLS, November 09, (THEWILL) – Kano State Hisbah Board has destroyed 1,975,000 bottles of beer, worth over N200 million, confiscated within Kano metropolis.

The state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who was represented by his Deputy, Nasiru Gawuna during the destruction exercise at Kalebawa in Dawakin Tofa Local Government, said consumption of alcohol and all other intoxicants that can distort mental capability and was forbidden in Islam.

Gawuna said, as part of efforts to enhance the welfare of Hisbah, there would be a salary increase and new uniform for them….

While expressing the appreciation of the support given to them by the State Government, Ibn Sina assured that the Hisbah would not relent in its fight against immoral acts that destroy society.

Here again we see that the frequently enunciated Islamic critique of the West as a sinkhole of vice and immorality, compared to the purity and uprightness of Sharia states, is not based on genuine virtue, but upon force. The residents of Kano State, or at least some of them — those who were going to buy these bottles of beer — don’t abstain from alcohol because they’re virtuous and want to please Allah. They abstain because there is no alcohol to buy, it has all been destroyed by the morality police. They aren’t good, if that is good, by choice; they’re good because they have no choice.

Note also that at least some of this beer was likely to have been consumed by non-Muslims. Islamic apologists routinely insist that application of Sharia in non-Muslim countries, such as Britain’s Sharia courts, will apply only to Muslims. Reality again and again demonstrates otherwise.
