7 years for rapist after sex slave escapes

A man who forced a 17-year-old girl to be his sex slave has been jailed for seven years and fined 20,000 yuan, prosecutors in the southern city of Shenzhen announced on Monday.
The 45-year-old, surnamed Chen, was charged with rape, molestation and illegal confinement, Longgang People’s Procuratorate said.
Chen met the girl, surnamed Han, via an online dating website, Daily Sunshine reported. After befriending her, he paid for her to fly from her hometown in central China’s Hunan Province to meet him in Shenzhen on February 26, 2013.
As soon as Han arrived at Chen’s home, however, he forced her to strip. He then told her to get inside a sack, which he suspended from the ceiling of his basement, the report said.
After two days of confinement, Han managed to escape while Chen was out of the property. She ran naked into the street and was helped by members of the public who contacted the police.
When she was found, the girl had iron chains around her ankles and feet, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
She told police that as well as being held in the sack, she had been locked in a metal cage and raped.
Police went to Chen’s home and found a 1.3-meter-high cage containing a blanket.
They also discovered clothes belonging to Han hanging on the balcony.
After Chen discovered Han had escaped — via a mobile phone app he used to monitor the surveillance cameras in the basement of the rented property— he fled the city, the report said.
Police said they apprehended Chen in Guiyang, capital of southwest China’s Guizhou Province, on March 12, 2013. He had traveled under false papers through Guangxi, Guangdong and Guizhou, the report said.
Chen stood trial at Longgang District People’s Court in December 2013.
He said he had an interest in sadomasochistic games and since March 2012 had paid middlemen to find women for him, Daily Sunshine reported.
The report said he had met up with five women in the period, each of whom he paid between 2,000 yuan and 6,000 yuan.
In June 2012, Chen was detained by Shenzhen police for 15 days after being charged with molesting women.
On his release, he attempted to sue the police, claiming the sadomasochistic games helped him relieve stress and that the five women had all participated willingly, the report said.
