Director of the Security and Intelligence Division at the Ministry of Defence, Major General (NS) Ng Chee Khern, will be apointed permanent secretary of Defence Development on May 1.
The 48-year-old will oversee policies and issues related to manpower, finance, information technology, and defence technology acquisition and research.
Mr Chan Yeng Kit will continue as permanent secretary for Defence.
Mr Ng joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1984 on being awarded a President's cum SAF Overseas Scholarship. He was appointed to the Administrative Service in 1995 and remained in the SAF, where he rose to the rank of Major General.
He held various command and staff appointments in the course of his military career, including Director Joint Operations Department and Chief of Staff HQ RSAF. He was also the Chief of Air Force from March 2006 to Dec 2009.
