Chiang Mai police seized 60,000 methamphetamine pills, or yaba, and shot dead a drug suspect who pulled a gun on them, police said Friday.

Police said an undercover agent on Thursday night was sent to buy yaba from two suspects on a motorcycle in Chiang Mai's Fang district.

When the agent attempted to make the arrest, one of the suspects, Singliu Saikui, 26, resisted and drew out a 9mm handgun.

The agent then fired at the suspect and killed him.

The second suspect fled on the motorcycle, police said.
