The Straits Times/PAP Forum has sunk to a new low with the publication of SIX letters (yes, your eyes are not playing tricks on you - SIX) ALL defending Tan Yong Soon and slamming netizens for being “small minded”.

This is IMPOSSIBLE to believe. Straits Times didn’t even bother to put up the customary wayang by including one or two letters criticizing Tan to balance things so as to appear objective and fair.

It creates the impression that the general public is strongly in support of Tan. Is this true ?

According to an online poll we are still conducting here which drew responses from over 2,500 readers, an overwhelming 88% did not agree with or support Tan Yong Soon flaunting his wealth in a national paper, an increase of 15% before Tan was rapped in Parliament by Teo Chee Hean.

Can Straits Times give us a figure of the number of letters they receive in support of Tan and those critical of him ? Perhaps the SIX letters published today were the ONLY letters they had received.

All things considered it was their stupid paper that got him into the fix so they have to do something to help him. Unfortunately, no matter how I look at it just making matters worst. Dumb press and dumb top civil servant goes hand-in-hand. Golden age of imcompetence has arrived.

It is the work of half-baked propaganda junda the Chua sisters. They think they are very smart and helping to protect their pap masters but instead they are very counter-productive.

The Chinese press is doing the same. Yesterday a female journalist attacked the netizens and then listed strings of "good things" Tan YS has done. What kind of fuckup journalism is that? Ms Yu you are another shame of Zaobao!

The Alpha Club is ganging up. A number of them are currently in SPH.

I don't see why you pple are so pissed about some idiot spending his own money. Seriously, I think this case have been blown out of proportion. Yeah so it was really stupid of him to publish it in the papers at a time like this, but seriously there is nothing really wrong with it either.

Charles Chong on the other hand havent recieve enough attention. I don't appreciate anyone calling me a less mortal

In another thread, Ramseth makes an interesting observation that perhaps Charles Chong's comments esp the (us) lesser mortals was not really directed at TYS but rather at Chong's senior in Pasir Ris GRC Teo Chee Hean.

This avalanche of letters may be the Teo Chee Hean faction (at least one is a SAF scholar) retaliating in what seems to be shaping up into an interesting intra-party conflict.

PM's approach in not naming a successor (two DPMs both older than he is) has left the field open for competition.

I say that this is good for Singapore! More competition in politics the better. It would be nice if more of it was in the open and less reading tea leaves!

If so, let it happen. It'd be even better since it starts at a time when LKY is still alive. It may only get more open and worse if and when LKY passes on, and the baton is passed to LHL. I'm just waiting to see if LHL can restore harmony immediately. If it's allowed to play out, its clear LHL can't do much until he gets the backing of his father.

And it is a sign of things to come once LHL loses his main mandate. Time will take away his only true mandate.

Whether its 6 letters published, 60 letters published or even 600 letters published defending Tan Yong Soon, if anyone is against him, it wouldn't change their opinion of him just by reading what is published.
