6.5 Quake Strikes Off Southern Sumatra

A magnitude 6.5 quake struck off the southwest coast of Sumatra at just after 11 p.m. on Friday, according to the US Geological Survey.

The epicenter was 165 kilometers west of Bengkulu and 22 km deep.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no chance of a destructive widespread tsunami following the temblor, but there was a small possibility of a local tsunami within a hundred km of the epicenter.

The quake woke people up, an AFP reporter said, but otherwise the effects were minimal.

All the tactonic plates are moving in sucession, one got the pressure release, then somewhere else the pressure increase, from the big one in 2004, we are getting bigger quakes in shorter intervals.

We better pray that it will not trigger a volcano eruption in the sumatra that will finish us off, slowly..

22 km deep. mean this earthquake is nothing....
probably very little damage.
