6.2 Earthquake Shakes Indonesia's West Papua
A 6.2 earthquake shook Manokwari in Indonesia’s West Papua on Thursday just after midnight. The quake did not have tsunami potential.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency stated on its website that the epicenter was 26 km deep and was located 78 km northwest of Manokwari.
Metro TV reported local residents ran out of their houses upon feeling the tremor at 12:18 a.m. A hotel in Manokwari evacuated their guests outside but the hotel guests refused to return to their rooms afterwards for fear of an aftershock. They sat in the lobby and parking area for a few hours.
There were no injuries or damage reported from the quake.
