Serious 58 suspects aged 17 to 77 arrested for gambling, vice and other offences in four-day operation

SINGAPORE - A total of 58 men and women were arrested and $19,000 worth of illegal items were seized in Geylang during a four-day multi-agency joint operation that ended on Saturday (Sept 30) morning.

The operation was led by Bedok Police Division and supported by officers from the Singapore Customs, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Central Narcotics Bureau, Criminal Investigation Department and Health Sciences Authority, said the police in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 3).

Forty-five men and three women aged between 17 and 77 years old were arrested under the Common Gaming Houses Act, while two women aged 30 and 43 were arrested for vice-related offences.

Seven men and a woman aged between 23 and 47 years old were also arrested for various offences, including theft, peddling of contraband cigarettes and illegal health products such as sexual enhancement drugs, cough mixtures and sleeping pills.

The items seized have an estimated street value of $19,000, the statement added.

Investigations against the suspects are ongoing.

In the statement, the Commander of Bedok Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Tin Wee, said the operation was "successful".

He also expressed his appreciation to all the agencies involved for their support and commended the officers for their professionalism and teamwork.

Gambling and prostitution comes hand in hand. Why not you legalised prostitution in certain part of Singapore ? Perhaps let NTUC run the whole operations.

That will be good. The prostitute has Union to support them. The Pro will have a good regular health check. Man and woman will have a peace of mind visiting them. That will also set a precedence whereby Government will take over the trade and regulate it.
