Over the past 20 years, the population grew by 58 per cent, while the number of police officers went up by 16 per cent.

I’ll stick my neck out and say this: It seems that our over-enthusiastic immigration policy of the past have not only strained our infrastructure but our law and order forces as well.

I gather that we can’t possibly employ foreign workers to do the policing – or can we? Therefore, we outsource some of the police work to companies like Cisco which seem to be able to employ foreigners so long as they are PRs (at least that’s what I think given the testimonies of auxillary officers who took the stand at the COI)

According to Commissioner Ng Joo Hee, police spent $2.5 million last year on auxillary police and “protection officers’’ to get more boots on the ground of Little India on weekends.

So in all, how much does the Home Team spend on “outsourcing’’? We already know that plenty of auxillaries are employed at the immigration checkpoint. And what are the “manning levels’’ taking into account the hiring of auxillary police officers?

Is this a good option? Or is such outsourcing a last resort? No one wants to be a cop or is the pay too low? And is this why we now have citizen “cops’’ to nab litterers and spitters?

you are rite...

inflation > 4%, CPF payout 2.5% and pay is zero increase.

I'm not surprised at all. We have so many problems now in Spore: a public transport system which is constantly crowded & breaking down, the lack of hospital beds, long queues at the polyclinics,.....

SPF doing very well even though manpower doesnt match the increase in population. Dont forget - our crime rates keep dropping. Three cheers to the SPF!

Failing to plan is planning to fail. But salaries still bestest.

If you don't have such a big head, don't wear such a big hat.

If you don't have big feet, don't wear big shoes.

If you don't have a lot of land, don't squeeze too many people onto it.

Until the population is reverted back to 4 or 4.5 million, nothing is going to improve.

Social tensions, crime, riots, hospital bed shortages, overcrowding in public transport and on roads. Only the blind do not see the symptoms.

Turn back while there is still time, before reaching the point of no return.

This is world class efficiency unparalleled with any other sovereign states! They are just being modest lah!

There is no necessity for a corresponding increase in the police force as the foreigners brought in are all extremely law abiding and commit far less crime than the locals.

Aiyah, please lah, even u got conned by this crap statistic. Crime rate is "dropping" because of all the para-police going around. SPF transferred so many areas of responsibility to GLCs like AETOS and CISCO. Even they are allowed to patrol Changi Airport. In the old days where got such thing as any other org doing this kind of policing. U must add manpower from all these GLCs together, and see whether overall policing manpower actually match or not?

This should noy be a reason for LITLE INDIA riot.
Only less than 150 person really riot. How come police cannot even handle.
Now SPF cheif come out said that manpower not enough/...........................bla bla bla.............

One one word. BO CHAP attitude and useless . Why SPF just cannot admit that.

If I were Home Ministers, I will kick the few top Police out and those in charge in that area.

Getting good money no matter what they do

You must be OMS first. Once you graduate, you are taken care till you retire as long as you dont commit any criminal offence. Chau chau retire as a director somewhere in ministry or stat board.

LMS too common. If Boon Gay was OMS unlikely he would be charged in court. If Paul Lim was LMS, sure charged in court and not allowed to resign. That's the hard truth and brutal reality.
