53-year-old arrested for suspected loanshark harassment

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On Aug 7, 2014 at about 4.45am, acting on information received, officers from Choa Chu Kang Neighbourhood Police Centre arrested the 53-year-man at Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 for suspected involvement in loansharking harassment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the man is a debtor-turned-harasser who had assisted loansharks to carry out loansharking harassment at Choa Chu Kang and Teck Whye by spraying graffiti. Upon his arrest, two mobile phones, a bottle of paint, a can of spray paint, a debtor's note and two bicycle locks were seized in connection to the cases.

First time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to 5 years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than 3 and not more than six strokes.
