50 years on... Life is not exactly a bed of roses for Singapore's first Olympic medal

Re: 50 years on... Life is not exactly a bed of roses for Singapore's first Olympic m

The key is that he's still here. He's no less a Singaporean than you or me.
The interesting thing to watch will be how many of these ping pong girls or the other foreign talent sportsmen and women stay in SG after the money well has dried up.

This is something I've been saying for some time now. Stop judging them just because they were born overseas. We can condemn them if and when they actually decides to leave the country

Re: 50 years on... Life is not exactly a bed of roses for Singapore's first Olympic m

Stop harping on FT or not FT, true or fake Singaporeans lar you stupid losers. The fact of the matter is his achievement came at a time when Singapore was not economically prosperous, to put it mildly. It is an achievement no doubt, a great achievement, but when the state and the people are poor, what do you expect him to be given? In 1960 Singapore wasn't even independent. One could argue he was a Malaysian at that time and thus this has been a Malaysian achievement all along!

Bottom line is, you may do something great, but if it's not at the right time in front of the right people, no matter how great your achievement is, you will not get your proper due, too bad. Conversely, you may do something entirely mediocre, but if it's at the right time and place just in front the right people, you are set.

He can try pawning his silver medal for some fast cash.

you also can pawn your 2 ball for better cash.

Re: 50 years on... Life is not exactly a bed of roses for Singapore's first Olympic m

I think the question is regarding integration. Those PRC girls though here for years but make no effort to integrate. Just listen to their accents and the ties to their homeland. These FT do not sink their roots.

Bennett lived here since 2 but attended international schools all his life.......i dun know how singaporean is that.
And Tao Li cant even sing the national anthem. Didnt even try to 'pretend' to fool us.

And Daniel Bennet took up citizenship only after he was rejected by an english club and realized that no club wanted him even as a local.

These people are here only for the money. It's so bloody obvious.

In a war, i will trust (even a young)Tan Howe Liang to fight to defend our country. Tao Li, Bennet and the ping pong girls? They will disappear even bfore you finish saying 'Fucking FTs'.

his time was the era when spore was still building it's economy and not much emphasis on sports. nowadays, the young sportsmen and women are damn lucky cos' they are in time when spore wants to spend money in sports.
