$50 to restore name to register of electors

We should abolish compulsory voting. It's our freedom to vote or not to vote.

Then don't re-register, don't vote and save S$50. I think that this is the only country charging voters to be restored to the electoral rolls. Well, another uniquely Singapore, another first world feat perhaps.

This is done to prevent those living below poverty line (20% of Sporns) who need to move from place to place from voting!

I believe this is meant to penalise the sinkies who are living abroad as they are more likely to vote opposition!

Well what to expect of dictators who could do whatever they want? We will probably be charged $50 to vote in the coming presidential election!

if they can afford to live abroad, then $50 is merely the salt on the peanuts...

There are still many ways to spend the $50. Paying for name restoration in order to be able to vote is not 1 of them. Very gian png!:D

I spent many years abroad before. Some years ago, I went to a community centre to restore my name to the electoral register. A valid reason was required; I showed the attending officer my exit permit. She said OK, fill the form, sign there and pay S$5 cash or NETS accepted. I asked why; she replied it was the stipulated fee. I said coolly with a smile, then nevermind, I might as well don't vote. Thanks for the trouble, but no thanks. She was taken back awkwardly, and said wait, she'd call her senior officer to check. After a couple of minutes on the phone, she returned to me and said, it was OK, the fee would be waived since I had the exit permit.

MPs argue in parliament. You may confirm this with pretty much any newspaper article on parliament sittings. Argument is controversy.

If you allow yourself to be re-presented by an MP, whichever party he/she may be from, you are part of the controversy.

Your choice.
