Posted by Chris Febian on June 23, 2011, filed in: How-To

Even firefox 5 final has been released yesterday, there still a lot of person not updating their Firefox 4 to Firefox 5 yet because of the add-on compatibility issue. There are a lot of Firefox 4 add on detected incompatible with Firefox 5 Final. But is it really incompatible? Not at all! I found that most all of addon which work great on Firefox 4 also work great like a charm on Firefox 5 final after I disable the addon compatibility check features.

How to disable the addon compatibility check on Firefox 5 Final?

Simply follow these simple steps below:
1. Type about:config into the address bar then hit Enter

1-compatibilitycheck-aboutconfig.jpeg

2. Click on “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.

2-compatibilitycheck-careful.jpeg

3. Right Click on any blank space than select New -> Boolean

3-compatibilitycheck-newboolean.jpeg

4. A new boolean value popup will appear, enter extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0 as the preference name.

4-compatibilitycheck-enterandok.jpeg

5. In the Boolean value, select false and then click on OK button.

5-compatibilitycheck-falseok.jpeg

Done! Now try to install or enable add-on that not compatible with your Firefox 5 Final. Your addon would work perfectly now. This could be a solution for you who not update your Firefox 4 to Firefox 5 final because addon compatibility issue. Please note that some of super older add-on might make your Firefox 5 crash or have stability issue. But for addon that works on Firefox 4, it should works great like a charm on Firefox 5 Final. So there is no reasons for you to not updating your Mozilla Firefox browser now.

Get a Sneak Peek of Firefox 6

Saturday, May 28, 2011 - by Paul Lilly

Mozilla on Friday flipped what's to become its Firefox 6 browser over to the Aurora channel where it's now available for download and testing. The Aurora channel is where Mozilla offers up early builds with the "newest innovations" before they make the jump to beta, and then eventually released as a final build.

This early version of Firefox 6 introduces a Data Management Window as an experimental feature that provides control over the access that specific websites have to your browsing data, including cookies, passwords, and location information. In the Aurora build, you access this feature by typing "about permissions" (no quotes) in the Awesome Bar.

Firefox6_Aurora.jpg

There's also a revamped Add-ons Manager with Plugin Check to quickly verify compatibility of installed plugins, and if you use Panorama to group tabs, Firefox 6 purportedly offers faster startup times by "allowing power Panorama uses to load saved tab groups only when using Panorama."

Firefox 6 in Aurora form also boasts improved support for HTML5, DOM level 3, server sent events, networking technologies, and other tools designed to make a developer's like easy when building advanced web apps.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the FUTURE OF FIREFOX

Download and test the build that’s right for you, and sign up for a channel newsletter to stay in the loop.

You can download Firefox 6 from here.

Firefox 6 Nightly Build Available for Download

In the race towards browser supremacy, Firefox and Chrome are struggling hard to reach newer versions more rapidly for the obvious motive being people tend to think newer version are better and faster. Needless to say, newer versions of any browser do include bug fixes and other trivial improvements. Google Chrome’s stable version which launched two years ago is already in version 10, whereas Firefox with 7 years of availability is just in version 4 now. Prior to Chrome, Mozilla had a practice of releasing updates in their sub-versions.

nightly.jpg

Things are shifting for Firefox in their roadmap. Firefox 5, 6 and 7 are being developed to be tossed in 2011 with several slight incremental updates. Nightly builds of Firefox 5 have been existing for quite some time now, but if you are one of those early adopters of Firefox, you can go ahead and get the nightly build of Firefox 6. Yes, you heard it right! Firefox 6.

Although Firefox 5 is very much juvenile at this point of time, Mozilla has gone ahead and started working on Firefox 6, and you can download nightly build of Firefox 6 from Mozilla’s Nightly Build Page

i'll stay with 3.6 for as long as it's possible......................

If You Don’t Update Your Mozilla Firefox to Firefox 5 Final Now, You Could Get Yourself Into This Shit!

Posted by Chris Febian on June 23, 2011, filed in: How-To

Yesterday Mozilla has just released Mozilla Firefox 5 Final. Though it was released yesterday, there are still a lot of people who doesn’t update their mozilla Firefox to its latest version yet. Most of them use the addon compatibility issue as the reasons for not updating their firefox. But, for you who don’t update your Firefox to Firefox 5 final yet, you could get in big trouble since Mozilla indicated that they will not continue updating Firefox 4 again.

vulnerabilitymozilla.jpeg

Security issues will be the most critical things you should to think if you decide to not update your Mozilla Firefox to Firefox 5 Final. Hacker might find and exploit Firefox 4 holes and could steal any important thing you have. Credit card, online banking, and other your private and important details could stolen by hackers.

The latest updated version of Firefox 4 is Firefox 4.01 that released almost 2 month ago. It’s rather old browser for now, especially after Mozilla released Firefox 5 Final. For security and stability reasons, I suggest you update your Mozilla Firefox to Mozilla Firefox 5. And for addon compatibility issue, you can disable addon compatibility check since most of addons still compatible with the newer firefox version. Read the article to know 5 Simple Steps to Make Any Add-on Compatible with Your Firefox 5 Final.

Flashblock 1.5.14.2

Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on...

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashblock/

More about this add-on

Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, Firefox, and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.

Flashblock currently blocks the following content types:

* Macromedia Flash
* Macromedia Shockwave
* Macromedia Authorware

Our public support forums can be accessed via:
our mailing list: http://www.mozdev.org/mailman/listinfo/flashblock
or newsgroup: news://news.mozdev.org/public.mozdev.flashblock

** HEADS UP **
Some flash is slipping past Flashblock on Firefox 4.0 (mostly Flash inside IFRAME subdocuments). I'm currently investigating.

Developer Comments

Flashblock 1.5.14 doesn't work on Firefox 2.0.0.x. For Firefox 2.0 users. Please install 1.5.14.2 instead.
Flashblock 1.5.14 broke compatibility with sIFR Flash replacement. Please install 1.5.14.2 instead.

FoxTab: To allow FoxTab to work without interruption please add "chrome" to the Flashblock whitelist (without the '" quotes).

Google Street View: Flashblock is reported to prevent Google Street View from running when trying to start it from Google Maps. Please add maps.google.com to the Flashblock whitelist (For regional versions of Google such as maps.google.ch, maps.google.fr, and maps.google.de use "maps.google" as the whitelist string). The easiest way to do this is to put the Flashblock toolbar button on a toolbar and then clicking on the drop marker on the right edge of the button. Choose "Allow Flash from this site" while maps.google.com is in your tab/window.

Please read our FAQ at: http://flashblock.mozdev.org/faq.html
Many common questions have answers there.

AutoProxy 0.4b2.2011041023

Are you concerned about your privacy? Or, are you blocked from some websites by a firewall? And, are you arming yourself with a proxy? In that case, AutoProxy is designed for you! A tool to help you use your proxy automatically & efficiently.

More about this add-on

AutoProxy is an add-on to help you use your proxy (http/socks) automatically & efficiently.

With AutoProxy, you no longer need to switch your proxy status between on & off manually. If you prefer to visit a website via proxy, just add it's domain to AutoProxy's preference. After that, when you surfing, specified websites will be transfered through proxy while leaving others connect directly.

What's more, you can subscribe to rule lists maintained by people who have similar requirements as you. So, you don't need to add all proxy rules by yourself.

Note:

"gfwList" is a list for people in mainland China suffering from the censorship of GFW. If you aren't in mainland China, please do NOT subscribe to "gfwList". AutoProxy should contain lists for other requirements. If you'd like to share your proxy rules to people in the same state/school/company/network...by maintain a rule list, it would always be most appreciated, please check out http://autoproxy.org/en/subscriptions .

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/11009/addon-11009-latest.xpi?src=addon-detail

AutoProxy is derived from Adblock Plus, thanks the ABP community especially it's author Wladimir Palant!

NoScript 2.1.1.2

The best security you can get in a web browser!
Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS and Clickjacking attacks.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/

More about this add-on

Winner of the "2006 PC World World Class Award", this tool provides extra protection to your Firefox.

It allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice, e.g. your home-banking web site, guarding your "trust boundaries" against cross-site scripting attacks (XSS), cross-zone DNS rebinding / CSRF attacks (router hacking), and Clickjacking attempts, thanks to its unique ClearClick technology. It also implements the DoNotTrack tracking opt-out proposal by default, see http://snipurl.com/nsdntrack .

Such a preemptive approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even unknown!) with no loss of functionality...
Experts do agree: Firefox is really safer with NoScript ;-)

Video DownloadHelper 4.9.3

The easy way to download and convert Web videos from hundreds of YouTube-like sites. This works also for audio and picture galleries.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

More about this add-on

DownloadHelper is a tool for web content extraction. Its purpose is to capture video and image files from many sites.

Just surf the Web as you are used to, when DownloadHelper detects it can do something for you, the icon gets animated and a menu allows you to download files by simply clicking an item

For instance, if you go to a YouTube page, you'll be able to download the video directly on your file system. It also works with MySpace, Google videos, DailyMotion, Porkolt, iFilm, DreamHost and others.

Since version 3.1, you can setup the extension to automatically convert the downloaded movies to your preferred video format.

When you are on a page containing links to images or movies, you can download some or all of them at once. Moving the mouse over the items in the menu will highlights the links directly in the page to make sure they are the ones you want to pick up.

DownloadHelper also allows you to download files one by one, so that you keep bandwidth to surf for other stuff to download.

To modify your preferences, like changing the download directory, right-click on the icon and choose "Preferences".

When you first install the extension, your browser is redirected to a welcome page with links to a user manual at
http://www.downloadhelper.net/manual.php and a faq at http://www.downloadhelper.net/faq.php

This does not change your homepage setting and the welcome page won't appear anymore.
