5 months' jail for man who obstructed policeman in Little India riot

SINGAPORE: An Indian national was found guilty of obstructing a policeman during last December's Little India riot, and received a five-month jail sentence on Monday (June 23).
Mahalingam Thavamani, the first man who claimed trial over his alleged role in the Little India riot, was found guilty of obstructing Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) N Subramaniam from dispersing the crowd near the scene of the riot.
The 27-year-old could have been jailed up to eight years and fined for the charge. - CNA/kk
