SINGAPORE - Police arrested five men for operating and gaming in an illegal gambling den at a private residential unit along Geylang Road yesterday.
In a six-hour operation which started yesterday at about 10pm, officers from the Bedok Police Division raided a private residential unit located along Geylang Road. Five men aged between 53 and 59 years were arrested.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, a 59-year-old man, is believed to have rented the private residential unit for the purpose of operating the illegal gambling den.
The remaining suspects are believed to be patrons. 27 modified computers and cash amounting to about $210 were also seized.
The 59-year-old suspect and 2 other suspects will be charged in court on August 13. Investigations against the remaining suspects are ongoing.
If convicted, the 59-year-old faces a fine of not more than $50,000 and imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years.
As for the patrons, they face a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months, or both.
